Chock locks..anyone use them? Trimax?

Has anyone used a chock lock...Denver boot type of wheel lock on their tear to help deter theft? I know Little Guy sells one, and I saw the Trimax one at Camping World. Any thoughts on these?

Yeah, I know..if someone wants it they will take it. But if there is too much risk, they will go next door and take the 13' Scamp instead.

Just hopeful I'll get that Grasshopper over here before long and getting everything lined up for it's arrival!!

I got me a coated cable that is supposed to be near impossible to cut and a padlock that is supposed to be harder to break into and lock it to a tree.
Now I am hoping if someone thinks about it they will decide its not worth the trouble. If they do take it I guess they want it more than me. I did get the longer cable and run it through my tires.

My rims are solid, so I can't run the cable through...I do have a really long cable that I have used to lock up the Vespa at work. I'll be bringing it while camping. I have a tree...but that means running the cable across the walkway. My neighbor suggested putting the cable around the axle and running it under the garage door and locking it inside somewhere. I may do that too.

Just ordered a cover. That will help..they won't know how awesome my trailer looks if they can't see it.

I have a hitch lock already. Just want a would be thief to go next door and steal Darren's trailer before mine. Not that I want anyone's trailer to be stolen, of course. That would be messed up. I just want to deter any idiots that think because it's not tied down that it's theirs.

I use the one sold by Little Guy on my Little guy. It is made by the same company that manufactures the Club for automoble steering wheels. I use it with a hitch lock. I feel that it is pretty good anti-theft protection. Nothing is infallible but it makes it much harder to steal than nothing.

When parked in front of my house, I use the one sold by Little Guy plus a hitch lock. I never bring it with me camping. I think a hitch lock is enough and I usually camp with multiple people that are always around the campers.

My popup never had anything on it, but a hitch lock, but the cute little RT might be too tempting to a thief. Gives me peace of mind.

I'm not armed...except with a really nasty temper and whatever I can grab...I have no qualms about using something on someone's head if they do me wrong..
.neighbor is a West Point grad and is armed. He's the one with the 13' Scamp.

I'll go over to the Little Guy dealer tomorrow...but I have one question...does the Little Guy tire lock work on solid rims? Mine are stock Grasshopper rims with baby moons..the Trimax will clamp on the rim below the hubcaps..Little Guys have perforations in their rims, and I thought their lock was made to go through the perforations....correct me if I'm wrong..I hope I am wrong because I like the Little Guy design better. Will it work with old school solid rims?? If so, I'm there first thing tomorrow.

The new owner of The Shell..my 72 Aristocrat..asked me the same thing about theft deterrent...what can be done. I told him the hitch lock and the wheel lock. I'll also cable lock the Grasshopper. Nobody is stealing my dream from me. Not if I can help it. I am also thinking about the Harbor Freight motion sensor alarm that I've heard about...some vintage RVers have put those outside their steps so if someone gets too close to their rig when they are sleeping the alarm will go off....of course animal might trigger it too. Gotta work on that idea. Don't need any scared skunks around when I'm about to open the garage and ride out on my Vespa...the patients won't like it if I smell like a skunk..

I have a Trailer Cop which fits up inside the coupler and prevents it being attached to a hitch ball. It is all up inside so cutters etc. will not work. We have had this discussion before there is basically no chain or cable that can not be cut with a bolt cutter in a matter of seconds. The one lock that appears about as bullet proof and theft resistant (note I did not say proof) is http://www.trailerlocksonline.com/dabull.html but it requires a bulldog hitch.

I think the LG lock needs the indents of the rims to hold onto. A solid rim won't work. You'll need something like a parking violation boot where one side holds onto the hubcap and the inside holds the rim.

The Trimax has a kind of pincher that will grab onto the rim. I'll see if I can find a better picture of the Little Guy one..or a picture of it off the tire to see if it's the same type of thing.

Just looking for chock lock info...I've got a hitch lock. I am aware that it's just a deterrent....most cars that are stolen didn't have any kind of deterrent..it was quick and easy to take. Cops will tell you that mostly the thieves will just go to what is quick and easy...less risky.

Surprise nobody suggested a really big dog I know there are ways around that as well but it makes people think twice

There is a little alarm device at HF that is motion sensor..some RVers use it outside their steps at night so it alerts them if anyone is messing in their camp..or too close to the door. Seems like animals would trigger it like crazy...cats in the 'hood, skunks...but I may get one while it's on sale and see..it can be used anywhere, so I might use it by the back gate so I have warning when Darren just walks in...

He emailed me this morning (1 am) and said "omigawd...look outside..someone stole your trailer!...he knew I sold it yesterday. But he wasn't home, so he didn't get the full effect of having the 18' trailer out of the driveway.

I know..I'll get a pet skunk!! That will keep thieves away!! (I really would, but they are illegal in CA. They de-stink them and raise them "for fur" and sell them as pets some places. They are like a cross between a cat and a dog in the way they act. Supposed to make great pets!)

Just ordered the Little Guy style one...got it on Amazon with free shipping...it's The Club brand. Gotta figure out lug nut locks now. May not be able to until I have the trailer here...

I use the wheel lock from Little Guy and a hitch lock my Little Guy dealer gave me because Little Guy forgot to put it in the trailer when it was trucked out here. Turned out, UPS delivered the lock after I arrived home the same day that I picked up the trailer.

It gives me peace of mind when I am away from the camp site all day.

I bought this coupler lock today at walmart and it works really well.



I figured this plus a padlock on the coupler handle and that should be enough theft protection.
