Over here we keep hearing about thieves using gas to put people to sleep in their motorhomes for the purposes of robbing them.

There as been no credible evidence merely rumour, in fact looking at the evidence about narcotic gases, I have to say it seems impossible.

So just wondering is this kind of thing reported in USA too?

George,

I have never heard of that happening here in the US, but I would not doubt that it has happened or will happen in the future. Seems criminals have tried almost everything else here.

Doubt it

Please speak to an anaesthtist, they will tell you its impossible, they have enough trouble up close and personal.

I think its a localised urban Legend, just totally not possible.

Remember the Russian theatre seige, Spetsnatz probably one of the best special forces in the world tried a concoction and there were loads of deaths.

My question is really is this rumour heard of in the US?

If I were a criminal, I'd think it would be a lot less trouble to just stick a gun in someone's face.

This one sounds like an urban legend for sure.

Hi George,
Can't believe no one turned this into a phart joke hijacking yet... :gas:

Did you hear about the obese guy in Fort Lauderdale that they found dead in his rooming house? Seems he had started a fad diet that week eating nothing but cabbage. Anyway, as the story goes it was a small airtight room, and the abundance of flatulent gases displaced all the oxygen as he slept, therefore suffocating him.....

truth or urban legend? I dare not guess....... :roll:

George, that is a common story in the trucking community(commercial transportation) over here...it is trucker sleeping somewhere when a gas is pumped into his sleeper berth and is then robbed...sometime it is an RV or someone inna car at a rest area...can't say that I have ever come across a verified account...it would not have to be a regular anesthesia gas, if they(crooks) weren't worried or concerned that you ever wake up...CO2 would work just fine

If that were the case (exhaust gas) there would be a lot of dead or brain damaged (amongst the other serious ilnesses that exhaust suicides have been known to cause)

Can understand truckers using it as an excuse, ie why they didnt wake up and also if it was impossible for them not to wake (without some excuse) why they didnt wade into the thieves.

BTW I have looked into loads of different suggested gases and cannot find one that suits the modus.

....basic urban legend...I think one thing that makes it popular amongst truckers is the fact that the sleeper berth is a fairly small enclosed space, which wouldn't take near as much whatever gas to work

Using proper gases the mixture as to be within 2% otherwise death occurs. would be a miracle of they could guess it just right (reality, its impossible)
