Anybody else get attitude from rv-ers

Postby Aaron Coffee » Sun Feb 26, 2012 10:17 am

Was going to add this to a different rv thread but decided to start a new one.
Does anyone else get somewhat of an attitude from people with full size rv's? I usually try for a spot as close to the shower room as possible without taking the handicap designated camp spot or the few pull through spots. I have never had any come out and directly chew me out, but have had snide remarks, insinuating that I should be in the tent section. Usually something along the lines of "I wanted that space..., that THING just barely takes up a 1/4 of the camp pad..." My reaction is usually "I reserved THIS spot weeks ago" or "It was open and I took it".
If I could shut my brain off, I could save myself alot of time, money and effort.

Geesh never. Most are squealing about how cute my LG is and can they see.

Haters are gonna hate. They are just jealous. Just practice your smug look.

Check one.

A.) I've worked in the RV industry most of my life and a lot of big RV'ers are just miserable people, just like everybody else in every other walk of life.

B.) I've worked in the RV industry most of my life and a lot of big RV'ers are just Nice people, just like everybody else in every other walk of life.

I find that 1 nice person cancels out 10 miserable ones.

Your always gonna have people that are gonna Belly ache over something.

My dad once said you could go into a room with 50 people in it and hand each one a $100 Bill...and someone will have something negative to say, That's why we have 2 ears. One to go in and one to go out.

So true and well put. So far I have not had anyone be negative but then again I camp around as few people as possible.
At a rest stop I had one ask me how it pops up.

I'm set up with a park trailer, its an old girl but its mine....
The peeps in our park with the fancy riggs are pretty cool, but the couple with the biggest piece of run down junk, blue tarps to keep the rain out, were snickering last year when someone pulled in accross from them with an obviously home built and let me tell ya, it was rough.
All I heard was did you see??? Look at that !!! How could they camp in that???
My only comment to them on the subject was, Hmmm, Looks like they're havin fun to me.
I've been 29 years in the RV bizz and I'm sorry, but not everyone has, or wants to drop 20 > $40,000 on a trailer when a few hundred and some time buys them all the fun they need.
Now I have to hand to the park owners where I seasonal camp, they would actually prefer that homebuilt less beautiful trailer than the $100,000 fifth wheel, to them its real camping.
Just ignore the naysayers, they're probably not worth your breath

Unfortunately I find, at times, the above ratio to be quite accurate.

I've heard the snickering of big RVers when they pass a teardrop camp. It's much like when motorcycle people pass scooterists..."when are you going to get a real (RV/motorcycle, etc..)?" It seems there is an idea that you aren't really trailer camping unless you have at least a standy, but more like a 16' standy. I'm thinking it takes a lot more to pare stuff down to camp in a teardrop than it does to haul everything you could possibly need in a bigger trailer.

I think there is a jealousy issue...tears are dang cute, easy to haul around, aren't gas hogs. Teardroppers are outside hanging out and being friendly, having a good time in camp, while big RVers are in their rolling houses with the TV on while cooking in the kitchen. There is a whole different mindset going on, a whole different kind of camper. I'm guessing teardroppers are closer to tent campers and backpackers than RVers in the way they view camping.

I've had people come up to me and tell me to move my scooter out of a car parking space because they wanted it and can't find one. CA vehicle code says we are supposed to park in car spaces...not make our own spot. I always laugh when those same people see 25 or more scooters show up a few minutes after they've told me to move (and I haven't)..and soon there are 4-6 scooters to a parking space.

It's just some folks just feel better about themselves when they say something nasty to someone else. I don't get it.

Maybe they are just UNhappy Campers!

I use to use the paved sites when tent camping.
They didn't have electric in the tent sites and I wanted electric
if I rented the spot be it for a 30 foot trailer or my tent
they still would not be able to stay there.

I've seen really big RV's, like Prevosts, pulling a Land Rover or a huge jetboat, pull into a shopping center to park , while the owners go into a restaurant. More than once. In two of these times, I was also present, and witnessed what I thought was utter disregard for common courtesy. In one incident, the RV and trailer was parked in the lot in such a way that the entrance to the lot was partially blocked, though there was plenty of space deeper in the lot. Second incident, the Prevost (I'm sure, because I witnessed the incident at close range) had pulled into a crowded restaurant lot, blocking off several already parked cars, and the entourage went into the eatery. Soon, a few diners finished their meals and went out to find their vehicles inaccessible. Then all they had to do was come back in and locate the obnoxiously loud-mouthed owner and try to reason with him to move the vehicle. He was rude to the blocked in motorists, and eventually the whole restaurant crowd was treated to a shouting match. I never saw the end of the incident, since I finished my meal, and went back to my truck and racecar trailer, carefully parked out of the way of other traffic. So, I don't know whether having a big RV makes one rude/stupid or a rude/stupid owner must have a big RV to satisfy the ego. I also have known some owners of big RV's that are great people, even a Prevost owner, so I guess it takes all kinds. My 2 cents.

My reply would be.
And it costs HOW much to fill your tank and how often do you have to do it? :frightened:
I must say I have never encountered any one that was not curious and some who were envious.

Nope, never had attitude from RVers. Only envy for being able to get it all down to the basics.

I've had 2 RV people tell me "I was going to camp in that spot". I moved on one occasion since it was just an overnight for me on the way to Minden and I figured it was going to be some good entertainment watching them back in....and it was, I set up a chair and had a beer, the dog and I had a good time watching, but I had heard the language before. Hubby and wife seemed to be at odds on it all. I told the other guy that he did pick the correct tense for his statement. It's all past tense now. He was in another site and wasn't around to claim it...off fishing. He did come over later and visited. Doug

Most RV people come over and want to take a look or I never see them because they are always in the RV. :)

In the 3 1/2 years camping in my teardrop I have run across many RVers, some ask many questions and want to look, some turn their nose up and act like they are better than the folks in the little trailers. When they ask when I'm going to get a real RV I tell them "I live in one, can't afford to pull it down the road"
I don't care what anybody thinks of my homebuilt TD, it's paid for and I'm enjoying it :D

I had a big RV pull up next to me on the passing side and ask me to roll down my window. Then, the passenger(wife?) asked if I built "that thing" myself. I told her that, yes, I had. She then turned to her husband, who was driving, and said, "See! I told you so!" The man said nothing, just drove on.

I had another couple look at my trailer. Again, the wife was excited but the man was showing some distain in his expressions. They moved on to look at a teardrop that had movies (DVD player) and what looked like mood lighting (yellow LEDs). The husband's face lit up and he exclaimed, "Now, that's more like it!" I guess he was looking for some big RV amenities.

I'm finding that life with a tiny trailer in the big RV world can be amusing.....
