Rat, I had my first Coconut this year and it was great! Much better than a Little Debbie or Hostess. At my current rate of two pies a year it will take me forever to try all the flavors, (and if coconut or strawberry are options I'll have to try them again, everytime) :) Which reminds me, Wagondude if you come here for spring break strawberry could be in season, lucky you!
Atahoekid, thanks for posting the link to the lagging compound !

Glen, if you are interested there are several small sailboat designs in the book I got my design from. You are welcome to borrow it!

Sharon and everyone else, Thanks for the encouragement! It has been fun, being able to document my build on here. Hopefully one of these days, I will be able to scrounge the materials to start an actual trailer (since that is the whole point of the forum) :D

Rosey , I was kinda’ thinking of something like you built , with just a little daggerboard ... could be used with or without a sail ... Might want to fish too, a sail would only get in the way of my “roundhouse” casting ...

When I first saw your boat build I had no idea how you would make it stable or strong
but now with the bracing and brackets it looks very stable and strong.
an outrigger made of foam would make it very stable.

I use to sail a gruman square-tail canoe with two lee boards just drop the one needed to stop side slippage
made it very stable it had a lanteen sail lots of fun

Pete, now I know this is gonna’ sound Stupid , but I had a Coleman plastic square ender canoe , and carried an old Golf umbrella (Huge) , and when the wind was right , I could just open it up on the front of the boat to catch the wind , and just cruise down the bayou ...steered with the paddle ... May have looked Dumb , but I didn’t have to paddle ... downwind anyway ... upwind was accomplished by an old Western Auto Wizard one lunger' , air cooled ... Replaced later by an electric trolling motor... (better for fishing the “edges” ) :D

Hey GPW, You still got that Western Auto motor?

I have been sort of collecting Western Auto camping stuff. Have a 2 burner stove and 2 different insulated water jugs

Seriously , you don’t need much of a sail to get some movement , and with the lightness of a foamie boat , even a small sail (or umbrella) should work !
Years ago , a friend had a tiny foamie sailboat , a “toy” to Real sailors, big enough for two , small enough to stuff in the back of the old Country Squire... outside had a thin plastic skin , inside was just foam ... Fun craft , easy to set up and take down ... We used it for years , held up great !!! no problems ... Wish I had one now !!! Seeing Rosey’s boat brought back all of that ... Foam boats do work very well ... and there’s No chance of sinking ... 8)

Now as to the Fishing ... around here we have a lot of shallow marshes, connected by a labyrinth of canals and bayous .. easy to access with a light boat (no launch fees) ... you don’t have to go far to find Fish , they’re Everywhere... Foamie boat or other small Light craft (canoe, kayak) allows you to sneak into the shallows where the Big Ones are... 8)
Just thinking , with a small sail , there wouldn’t even be any paddling noise to scare them away (Stealth) ... We do take Fishing very seriously here.... It's FOOD !!!!! ... and we take Food Very Seriously here too ... It’s nothing to eat a big Seafood Platter, then stuff down a Hubig’s pie afterward, all washed down with a Barqs Root Beer... Culinary Nirvana !!!

But like the recipe says ... First you get the Fish !!!! ... which in reality means first you get the boat ... or just fish off the bank ... not as much Fun or as productive ...

I know he didn't say anything about bare feet but it's my image I've also added crawfish in a bucket

You could always take this Foamie’ Boat to the extreme , make a larger one (much Larger) and just flip it upside down on a trailer , add your doors and portholes ... Boat shaped camper!!! ... Think how streamlined it is ...

Ps.. The umbrella also works good for the Rain and sunburn prevention ... multitasking ... ;)

where did we go wrong?
umbrellas as sails, trailers turned upside down so it can be used as a boat...........
keep it up and people will think we are nuts for using foam to make trailers........
oops! too late..... :running man:
