IMPORTANT- GOOGLE and Your Search History

Postby Dale M. » Thu Mar 01, 2012 9:48 am

Complete article and directions

"Google changes to its new privacy policy that allows it to gather, store and use personal information, users have a last chance to delete their Google Browsing History, along with any damning information therein.

Tech News Daily reports that once Google's new unified privacy policy takes effect all data already collected about you, including search queries, sites visited, age, gender and location will be gathered and assigned to your online identity represented by your Gmail and YouTube accounts. After the policy takes effect you are not allowed to opt out without abandoning Google altogether. But now before the policy takes effect, you have the option of deleting your Google Web History by modifying your settings so that Google is unable to associate data collected about you with your Gmail or YouTube accounts"...

I had understood that if you search on Google and you are not logged into Goggle at the time, they can't track anything. I never login to Google on my computer. The only reason I have a Google account is I have a Android smart phone and a few of the apps on it don't work without a Google account. The map app comes to mind.

Then there's always the "Don't go anywhere on the Internet you wouldn't want your mother to know about" approach.

Unfortunately you are wrong. If you open up your'e browser and go to you-tube you will see that you are logged in. Google is getting rather annoying these days.

You need to take the time to read the Google privacy changes. All that changed is that Google now says it will share information Across it's own services. News sources are trying to blow this into some kind of privacy-geddon.

It means that google can share information fom your searches with your gmail app in order to sell targeted marketing. That's it. That's the big danger.

I went to youtube.com and in the upper right hand corner is "Create Account" and "Sign In". Maybe that's because I have never created an account or logged into youtube before. Try logging out when you leave youtube and never let the browser save your password or let any web site "keep you logged in". You might try deleting all you cookie information also.

How does it work if someone - like me - doesn't have gmail or a google account? To turn it off, you need to go into your account.

I've never heard of yippie. I guess they were trying to create a positive sounding name like the one I've used for years. YAHOO! Maybe I'll start up a new one called YEEHA and make millions. One million would be enough.

We have been using Bing more now since Google thinks they know best for us.
Don't have any Google accounts and don't plan to.
Just like Bank of America and their $5 debit card charge.
I closed my BofA account in the 1970's because of their attitude.
Won't use Pay Pal since they want my checking acount number  :frightened: .
Consumer backlash can hurt

I certainly don't use Pay Pal anymore for the exact same reason.
