What a Day

Postby nrody » Sat Mar 03, 2012 8:23 pm

This morning we had to put our cat Zoe to sleep. He had a good life and we loved him with all our hearts. Leaving the vets office I spied a yard sale with a Coleman stove. Of course in my grief I had second thoughts about stopping but I turned the truck around and headed back. The stove Is a Coleman 413 in good overall condition. I will have to test the tank but it looks good $10 bucks.

Then we headed home to bury Zoe next to Butch the Boxer. That completed we were off to shop for Legos for Ty. He had some left over gift cards and it was a good distraction.
When we got to the end of the street I see the sign for "Estate Sale". Of course we had to stop.
There I found an addition to my egg plate collection, some odds & ends and a 8 inch covered cast iron skillet (no photo).

Off we went to toys r us and target and AAA to get maps for the IRG. As we approached home I spied another yard sale and the green top and handle for a lantern. Again I turned the truck around. I got a Coleman 48 (hard to date this one) for $15 bucks.

Grandma is happy because the quest for a working lantern has been a challenge.
Sad for the loss of my kitty.
Tired.

Nancy, I'm really sorry about your loss of your best friend. It's tough, but we as "Mothers" or owners, know when it's time. Speckles is in my back yard because as a rescue who was abused before she found me, this was the only good home she ever had. She'll always be here in her best home. I put on her on the opposite side of the yard from my sister's cat......Speckles didn't like cats

Glad you were able to find the sales to change the mood.

Dear Nancy:

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your cat. Most of them give so much comfort and enjoyment in their short lives. They are here and then they are gone.

I hope your purchases lifted your spirits. Each time you light the lantern, you can think of your pet and I hope that will warm your heart.

Sorry of the passing of your cat, it hard to lose someone you love. I think your cat was guiding you to those great finds you got today.

Thank you both. Zoe was with me through the best and worst times of my life. He was spoiled rotten as all of our companions should be. I think he guided me today to find little things that make me happy. I will never ever forget how special he was.

And I know he had a girls name but when he was put in my front room window anonymously his boy parts were not developed enough to know he was a boy. I did find out who put him in the window too!

Sorry about the loss of your friend.

Looks like you did good on the Coleman stuff. That 413 looks nice. Looks like the fuel cap has been replaced as from the looks of the rest of the stove it should an older style of fuel cap. About the only thing that goes wrong with the stoves is the fuel cap gaskets gets old and leaks. Sometimes the pump needs worked on. If you haven't already I would put some oil in the pump before trying it. I use 3 in 1 oil. Neats foot oil is the official oil of Coleman and is probably better but it is had to find. That 228D lantern should clean up pretty good. And you have some new mantels with it, the good ones. The Colemans you can buy in stores now are not worth the trouble. IMHO. You should join us in the the Vintage Camping Gear section. There are a mess of Napathaolics there. I can't remember seeing you in there yet.

Thanks everyone for your kind words about Zoe.
Slow for cleaning the tank I get the bb part but do I add any liquid?

Randy will sewing machine oil work for the pump? If the fuel cap gasket needs to be replaced where do I get one and how do I replace it?

Sewing machine oil works just as good as 3 in 1. Infact I have an old can of Singer oil setting on my desk right now that I usually use. If the gasket of that one piece leeks you can get another cap at most places that sell Coleman stuff. That is the only way Coleman sells the gasket. You can get another gasket but they are not easy to replace. But I have never tried to replace on in the kind of cap. I have only changed the ones in the older 3 piece caps. I just did a quick search and the Oldcoleman parts guy does not have a gasket for the one piece cap like you have. But if you do find just the gasket the easest way to get the old gasket out is to burn it out with a propane tourch or similar device. Then scrape out the remains with a dental pick type of tool. Or other pointy thing.
