Didn't have my camera handy

Postby Martiangod » Mon Mar 05, 2012 10:23 am

Dang, didn't have my camera handy....Grrr
Was sitting yesterday afternoon on the comp, saw a shadow flutter by window
Looked up and there was a large bird on my fence post, sat there for about 2 minutes.
Searched the net for what it was
Seams it is rather rare in these parts.
Only thing I could find that looked like it was a Gyrfalcon, I knew it was a Falcon, as we have a growing population of perigrin here.
It was about the size of our Poodle/Shitzu cross
But this bird is native to iceland and artic coast. It does stray quite far in the winter and the bird tracker agency I reported it to said it was a possibility.
I'm thinkin with the tremendous wind storms we had all weekend that he blew in from somewhere.
What a beautiful bird

I wonder if it belongs to a falconer in the area
There is a world, just beyond now,
where reality runs a razor thin seam between fact and possibility;

Anywhere I roam where I lay my head is home....

If so he probably seen the jesses on the birds legs. When I was working at a golf course I ran across a hawk with a rabbit on the ground and it had jesses that were very obvious. I was not interested in trying to get the bird..even if I had gloves. It finally flew off, it may have been an escape
