Possible to get the porta potty out of the teardrop?

Postby mikeschn » Sat Mar 03, 2012 2:10 pm

I was wondering if it was possible to get the porta potty out of the teardrop, and onto the ground. That would allow the teardrop to shrink quite a bit. Admittedly the giant teardrop is, well, huge!

The key here is I don't want to have to get dressed to get to the porta potty.

So one of those Paha Que teepee tents wouldn't work. Any thoughts?

SUV tent off the door side, would double your living space
Or, camp where it matters not if you get dressed
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

This is mine
Its a Napier Sportz 10 x 10, 7 feet high inside, the boot will fit around a 17 foot circumfrence
The boot will zip off to use it freestanding
They are not cheap though

The boot will zip off to use it freestanding
And there is a wall to zip up when not attached
They a re nice though, Wish the screen room and rain fly were an option when I bought mine

Image

Little better look at how it attaches on a truck
The black straps are sewn on and a webbed material like seat belts, they have cinch buckles on them to adjust the circumfrence

Image
First time we used it, I set the tent up, back the truck into it, then we unloaded.
A little while later the peeps started comin round for the tour. The girls next door went " COOL, The truck puked in the tent " Becasue they saw no gear except the tent come out of the truck
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

Last year I went to REI to get something. On that day they had a 'returns' sale. Racks and racks of gear. In the tent section I found a Kelty Car Port at a big discount.

http://www.kelty.com/p-511-carport-deluxe-large.aspx

One of the adjustable stake tie-out loops had torn...pfffft! I got it home and resewed it and added some stitching to the other tie-outs.

The CarPort is nice but wayyyyyyyy over priced!

That car port idea is nice too, but yep, way overpriced.

Years ago I wanted to stay away from canvas/fabric while camping, but now I realize there will have to be some canvas involved to keep the trailer relatively light. Tradeoffs!!!

Jstrubberg,

The bobhenry dude is a genius....thanks for that link. I may get to include that on my current build, but that will be filed away.

Yep the slid out privacy curtain works .........

It is readily apparent that curtain weights may be needed

Went to the 2 layer approach last year. Bought a 4x4 pop up at a yard sale for 15 bucks and had a great idea.

We keep our porta-potty in our side tent from Camp Inn. Besides the porta-potty, It is a place to put our shoes (at night) and clothes that don't fit into the teardrop.

Image

If you're willing to spend the money, the Camp Inn side tent is hard to beat. It has a floor and lower skirt, cinch straps that fit around the door and snug the tent up tight to the teardrop, and has side window screens to allow breeze (without bugs).

There's a whole bunch of Tidy Tents. I wonder how they do in the rain?

Since they are made for outside storage, I would think they would do just fine.
