Need advice on a U-Haul 13CT

Postby Dean in Ct. » Mon Mar 05, 2012 5:15 pm

Spotted this near my home and called the owner. He is asking $2500.00, and that seems like a right reasonable price. The google machine says it's a U-Haul CT @13'long. I don't know the year nor many other details as his phone was crappy. If I don't jump on this will I regret it for the rest of my life? Does anyone have 1st hand experience with one of these and what specifically should I look at? Seems in overall decent shape although I did not look underneath.
Comments appreciated!

(I thought I had the resizing thing down but most of these pictures got a little cut off the right side. Damn)

Re: Need advice on a Burro (I think)

Well first off, I'd say it's a U-Haul and not a Burro. It looks pretty good for the price although I'd try and get it for much less. Which ever, if you are looking for a small standup you would be happy with it. You need to check the floor closely and where it is common to the sides (yep, under the trailer). And check the frame for heavy rust. ;)

P.S. The U-Haul's are a hard to find fiberglass (egg) trailer.

Thanks! I thought Burro was the model. I guess it's simply a U-Haul 13 CT.

Dean in CT....... That is a great price! I have one they are great little trailers. U haul made them to rent so they are built for abuse! It looks to be in realy good shape except some one took the front couch/bunk beds apart. Gage is right look at the under side of the floor and the frame but most of the ones I have seen are in good to great shape for there age. Your was most likely made in the early 80's.
Here is a web sight just for small fiberglass egg trailers.

And one for U haul campers

Here are some pic's of mine.
Front couch....The back folds up to make bunk beds.

Dean-

Check around the windows for signs of leaks.

Goobers of silicone chaulking, etc. is generally a sign of leakage & will need to be addressed...

Cheers,

buy it
very very good price they were made for U-Haul right here in Dayton ohio
they have a hugh following even have their own club.

one thing that may need changeing would be the axel seems the rubber inside does relax if the trailer is not jacked up when stored
axel swap is an easy job to do not to expensive either.

trailer is worth about $4000 to $6000
don't let it get away.......

yes what they said.

I've been looking for one /at them for 2 years and never have found one in that good shape for that good a price. I've seen them go 7k on e-bay. :money:

I just now gave up and ordered a cargo trailer for conversion instead. :BE

So buy it now, unless it cracked bad somewhere. :shake hands:

Keep us posted with pictures. :pictures:

Good Luck: Jeff :vroom:

One thing to consider is hubs (bearings) are sealed units and can only be replaced. May or may not be an issue. Have been told that the bearing units are still available through u-Haul... IF it were me I would not let that stop me from purchasing though... Unit looks very clean and well cared for, looked at one recently for about same price but decided to pass on it as it was pretty abused by previous owner.. Fellow had made some funky cabinet doors to get rid of U-Haul logo on doors, and pulled out all the propane plumbing (stove, heater, piping and tank mount)...

IF it is what you want in a trailer (and not just by brand name) grab it...

Jump on it. You can always pass it on if you decide you don't want it.

I think they are cute as can be.

That's a good price, looks like it may have the original uhaul hubcaps which are rare. Appears to have the original equipment swamp cooler which is worthless, we are replacing ours with a fantastic fan. Hubs are available but these CT13's don't have brakes. Spare rims are hard to get. The windows typically leak but are rebuildable. For lots of info, go to fiberglassrv.com and click on uhaul in the list of trailers and it will bring up all the posts on uhaul campers. In the document center is the repair manual with some good info. These trailers were made about 1984 and 85, rented until 1992 and then sold to the public. Bob
