Furrion 30 amp Inlet

Postby ashleygries » Thu Feb 16, 2012 11:15 am

Just wondering if anyone else has one of these and could recommend them. It says it has an LED to let you know if you are getting power to the inlet, seems like it could be helpful...
Thanks!

(Ignore the TV outlet sign- the 30amp inlets look the same...)

Thats a nice looking inlet. That LED indicator is a nice touch. A lot nicer than mine.

Absolut- I thought it looked pretty nice- I went ahead and purchased one from Amazon for $45...not sure if that's high-or low on the price scale, but I kept seeing the Marinco silver ones go for $90 and thought this might be a good compromise.

I test the pedestal before I plug in and will be monitoring during. I have a Marinco which appears to be about $30 less.

All our Everlites have the Furion, they also use the Furion cord that has an LED at the plug end.
Makes trouble shooting straight forward in the park, if you have no power, easy to diagnose if its the Park, cord, plug or in the trailer.
Only problem Iv'e seen with them is one customer drove away still attached to the pole....
But hey, he admitted fault right away...lol

Thanks for the responses- I finally received it in the mail the other day, and it looks like it's going to be a winner. I have yet to purchase the cord for it yet- but those twist-lock plugs are a bit pricey! Since we're planning on mounting it to the underside of the trailer, it probably makes more sense though- that way if it gets tripped on, it won't pull right out and require someone to get back underneath the camper to plug it back in... I'll make a mental note to try not to drive away with it still attached

How much are these and which cord do they take?
They look similar to the Marinco 301ELBR

I have looked up the Furrion 30 amp inlets online, and the cheapest I have found them is around $45 US. The take a standard 30 twist lock cord. It is the most common 30 amp connector that I know of. You are not going to find anything out there rated @ 30 amp that used regular straight prong cords. The just won't take the current. The are not hard to find. You can get the cord-end at any big box store in the electrical dept.

I used Twist Loks for large P.A. Systems I built, since they are Stoner-proof. Love 'em, since they can withstand Murphy's Law scenarios. However, they do stay locked, per the design...

For lil Camping pre-Launch details, like detaching Shore Power and retracting the Tongue Jack, one trick of many is to hang a 'Dog Tag' reminder around your TV Rear View Mirror. My latest trick is to keep the TTT Keys in the Door. Then, I lock up and remove said Keys only after putting up the stow-able Stairs and detaching Shore Power, etc..

When I pulled up to camp by Flaming Gorge UT last year - see that Trip Report written up here - the Camp Host asked me to keep an Eye out for 2 little Dogs. A Big Rig RV'er had driven off with only 2 of their 4 Dogs. Their traumatized Grand Kids noticed this ~100 miles down the Road. They had to keep moving. Sayonara little Dogs there in chilly Coyote Country. Forgetfulness gets us all...

In a related story, I had to turn around in a sudden Blizzard and camp in Glenwood Springs CO ~2 weeks ago. When I plugged/unplugged Shore Power, the entire Pedestal Front Panel fell away into my Hands, exposing non-GFI'ed 240 VAC with 'unlimited' current straight off the Step-down Transformer. Had one driven away w/o unplugging - in electrically-conductive new Snow, no less - there could have been quite the Fireworks Show! I later called the elderly Female Owner, in the midst of selling her RV Park, to let her know of this hazard at one of the few Overnight Sites provided there. She was quite grateful, of course...
