Happy Pi Day Everyone!

Postby IndyTom » Wed Mar 14, 2012 9:46 am

I hope everyone has wonderful Pi Day. I know I can hardly wait to gather with the family around the Pi Tree this evening and sing Pi songs and exchange Pi gifts. Then we will invade the dining room where we will have our Pi Day feast. Chicken Pot Pi, peach Pi for desert, and maybe some of Bob Henry's Apple Pi for the grownups to drink. :R :R :R

Hey Tom, People lose sight of what is important these days. Back on 3/14/1592 Pi Day had so much more meaning than it does today. My family and I like to go out and run in circles in the yard to celebrate. The neighbors just don't get it.

I cannot tell you what good it does my soul to see you guys getting into the spirit of the day!

Jim, how I wish I could have been alive back in 1592, what a glorious holiday it must have been, I guess I will just have to console myself with the essence of 3:00 this afternoon. :R

To everyone freely run, skip or perhaps even drive in circles to celebrate the day.

I am constantly amazed at the amount of interesting information that I have gleaned from this message board. Little did I know that the 4 years of math that I took in highschool would one day finally enlighten me. However, since Pi is really 3.14159 etc., wouldn't the date 3-14-16 be the ultimate Pi day? Lets see what is in store for this day four years from today. Whee.
:? :? Roly, wishing all a happy Pi day...........what ever that is.

Roly: Since Pi has an infinate number of numbers following the decimal point it is almost an insult to round it to 3.1416. I felt guilty enough rounding it to 3-14-1592, and truncating the remaining bazillion numbers. For you to insinuate that 3/14/2016 is the ultimate day is...well, it is heresy! How do you look in the mirror or sleep at night on this the holiest of all holy days.

Let me guess...you are a Lit major!?

Jim, You may not know it, but you have stumbled into there very reason that there are those among us that do NOT celebrate Pi Day, all of that uncertainty drives them insane. For that reason, they prefer to celebrate Pi Aproximation day. The original approximation of Pi, as I understand it, was 22/7, and for that reason, THEY celebrate on July 22nd. While I believe they have the right to do so, I personally believe they are heretics.

Can we have a moment of silence for those who celebrate Pi Approximation day................

OK, that's long enough. Now let's laugh our butts off at those who celebrate Pi Approximation day (this will take a bit longer folks so if you want to go out and get a piece of Pi while we do this you will have plenty of time).

I know it's wrong to laugh at people that are different, but we have to consider these are also the same people that don't check their tires air pressure, don't use safety chains, and forget to lube their axles...they just get what they deserve.

And when tommorrow comes, and today is gone forever, we will only have 365 days until PI DAY!

A little Pi-ku to 'round' out your day....

For any circle
Circumference/diameter
Three point one four-ish
