My brother served aboard her sister ship all during the Korean conflict. The Iowa, Missouri, Wisconsin and My brother's ship the New Jersey (BB62) would relieve each other every few months along the Korean coast. The "Big J" was the battleship which suffered casualties..about 17 of them, while engaged in an operation. Thay pulled in close to a mountain on the seaside to silence a reported 3" gun. the gun was a 5"..just a bit more range & a crew dumb enough to fire on a battleship. A "full 9 broadside and the whole side of the mountain came down.
The Iowa was the first keel laid of these identical battleships..thus the "Iowa Class" battleships.
My brother is now a curator for a military park in Texas, while the "Big J" is a floating museum, tied up at Camden, NJ..
