Fire Extinguishers

Postby Lancie49 » Tue Mar 20, 2012 4:31 am

What do the majority of builders do with regard to fire extinguishers ?
I'm about to start the interior fit out of my TD and obviously want some form of fire protection.
I can't really see a need for an extinguishers in the cabin itself, but I will be fitting one in the kitchen area.

I will also be installing a photoelectric smoke alarm and a fire blanket and always while camped will have a full water bucket at the hitch.

Where have you installed your extinguisher ?

Ours is back in the galley and there is a smoke detector in the cabin and a gas detector back in the galley. There is a thread concerning this on the iRV2 forum, some one who lost their behemoth motor which started in the battery compartment. This evidently a result of factory wiring problems (bare wire hit metal frame). We do not have camp fires so that is not a concern but certainly I see with regularity fires left to smolder (It was so bad at Chain O Lakes you could see the inversion layer and I had serious asthma problems).

I carry one in my tow vehicle.
Most likely cause of fire in a trailer is overheated wheel bearings, no good if its in trailer.
When delivering a trailer to a customer, I always point out the tiny fire extinguisher, and say see that, theres propane on this trailer, that ain't doing squat....If you have fire.....RUN
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is
