We kept horses for many years and my experience with "hot wire" fences has been that they do keep the critters in/out, but that you WILL get shocked at some point, so make sure you're not talking about lethal voltages.

It's just high voltage but very very low current, so there is no danger at all.

I've seen 5 to 600 lb cows walk right thru an electric fence I've even done it (don't ask, it was in the dark)I don't think I would trust it to stop a 600lb Griz.
It would probably just make him mad

Scaring away animals like bears with a loud noise is the recommended by the park service.
They would have issues with what you propose.
I install one of these loud horns on my teardrops.
They are loud enough for a bear snooping around your campsite. Danny

I have an electric fence around the pond (damn raccoon eating the fish), and I can touch it without feeling anything if I have shoes on. Of course, if I take the shoes off, then I feel it all right. For an electric fence to work you need to close the circuit between the ground and the live wire.

A bear for sure is going to try to smell the trailer first, and I'm not sure that a bear of any size won't get scared when there is a spark like in the video up his nose! :-)

Anyway, I don't think it should stay on all night long. A push button that activates the "fence" temporary would be enough. You hear noise outside, you push the button.

Hmm, how about the fence acting as a trigger for the horn. Get a physical AND audible jolt.

If you feel you need something like this around your trailer or actually electrifying trailer skin, you don't need to be camping... You need to stay home dig a really deep hole in your backyard and line it with brick and steel and stockist with food and go inside a wait for dooms day to arrive.... With your bunker mentality there is no place off your own property that will be safe for you... The flip side will be everybody in camp laughing at you as you stand one foot in a puddle of urine and one hand locked on door knob and you yodeling like a cowboy who took a squat in the woods and found a bear trap....

I just push the panic button on my car's key fob, honks the horn & flashes the lights. It'll spook off most things. The backup plan goes BANG.

Good one! This also work as home defense at night. Sleep with the car keys on the night stand and if you hear weird noises in the house, push the panic button.

I like the idea behind this product, just unsure how safe it is..I would like to have a tiny house so I understand the idea behind. It would be excellent as I would want to keep pests away that may want to eat my food or worse yet me. My over all idea would be extended stays so the scent of food maybe abundant, I'd prefer a more natural way of deterring them just afraid that what ever would do that to a bear would do that to me as well... still interested in other peoples opinion on this type of device
