Kirk, never go cold turkey off of coffee. You have to slowly reduce your intake. The main reason for that is because of the terrible headaches that you can get. Don't replace coffee with sodas, either, because they often have even more caffeine as well as often too much sugar. Actually, a little bit of coffee is good for you. If you wake up with low blood pressure, it will help raise it. If you have an asthma attack, drink a cup of coffee and you'll feel some relief. The list goes on. In my opinion, the key is to not allow yourself more than 2 or 3 cups a day and to try not to drink coffee within 6 to 8 hours of bedtime.

Totally agree with Sharon's good advice.

I switched to decaf, and nowadays drink mostly tea and occasionally coffee. One thing I found is that the feeling that I was getting more done when drinking coffee was just not true - it just made me feel that way.

Yeah, cut 1/2 to one cup a day out of your intake and when you're down to a cup or two, switch to tea or decaf.

I quit coffee about 8:30 every morning. The only problem is that I take the habit up again around 6:00 am the next day.

Oh man what am I gonna do on sunday? Bootfair day. My favorite thing is to get a giant coffee and go the flea market. :frightened:

Get all jacked up on coffee and haggle with people who would keep me from a rusty Coleman lantern. 8) Nothing Better!

You could get all hopped up on sugar instead!!
But like Sharon says, don't try to quit too fast, the headaches are a killer. Been there.

Coffee is after all one of the five major food groups, sugar salt fat chocolate and coffee so why would you want to give it up
We gave up bad coffee years ago and now only have two cups of coffee a day, I will admit they are both Lazarus grade but they are also Latte so some goodness. Coffee is ground fresh daily and current Starbucks French roast beans (good price at Costco).

I want to give it up because after the good feeling I feel sick.

Went decaf 17 years ago. The first couple of days are rough. After the third day, you won't miss it anymore.

Your heart will thank you, too.

We are very biological and the physiology of what caffeine does to you varies person to person. For some one who is hyperactive it slows them down for most of us it gives a boost. I would ask what reaction you have to other caffeine drinks i.e. Mt Dew.
As was suggested tapering off is what you do with any drug.

I gave up coffee a couple times. Each time the runs and the headache were no fun. So the last time I gave up coffee I wimped out and drank a cup of green tea to get rid of the headache. Been drinking green tea ever since.

Someday I'll get caffeine out of my diet again...
