So....since this is a campfire, pull up a chair, grab some marshmallows and take a look at this:

http://www.scootercannonball.com/riders/

This is where you track Lazybones on his trek across the country on his 1946 Salsbury scooter. Look around on the site and you will find the route for each day...and when it actually happens you can see the results for each day. We can see how our friend is doing as he makes his way back to the west coast. The scooter is almost done, and will be finished in time to ship out in a few days.

Take a look at the route and see if Lee will be in a town near you as he makes his way across the country on a scooter he totally rebuilt!

Nobody has taken on a task like this before..nobody has rebuilt a bike this age and run it in a timed race across the country before...at least not a race like this one!! Some say he's crazy, others say he's a genius....I'm thinking he's a bit of both, but he knows what it takes and I'm thinking he'll do really well...

I did read about the Cannonball. very interesting. How does one get to the start and all that. Do you have to ship the bike ahead to some location?

Thanks for the vote of confidence Dragonfire! Yes; I am a bit crazy. But; I think I can do it.

Kirk, My scooter is shipping out in 8 days and I will fly out to GA to ride it back.

I'm still building it and am heading to Redding Saturday to have the custom seat done. I hope to ride it Sunday for a shake down.

If you don't mind, send both and I'll give back the one I don't use.

Hey. I got a post card from my nephew. He said his visit to your museum was a fun. I hope to come see the 8th wonder for myself one day.

I'll get them in the mail to you Monday....they are ready to apply, stick'um both on. I think your nephew had a great time at the museum, but I also think he was just being nice and polite. Here at DougKraft industries, we are proud to be a sponsor of the Lazybones entry in the Cannonball. It's nice to know that I"ll have my logo on the winning entry. Just like in Nascar...you gotta take a pic of the vehicle with the logo next to the trophy! Best of luck to you Lee....have a safe trip, you have what it takes to win! Doug

Lee..I know you wouldn't have undertaken the project unless you thought you could make a decent showing of it. I just wish I could be at the finish line to see the Salsbury come in. I'm sure you will be ahead of the pack, I'm not expecting you to take it all, but I know unless something really crazy happens, you will make it and it will be a very respectable finish.

I enjoy the fb updates and pictures. Keep them coming. Hopefully you will have time to update your status on the trip. There are a lot of people talking about what you are doing. A little bit of craziness is what you need to ride a scooter, but you are the master at building things. And I know you are a good enough mechanic, and you know that scoot inside and out, so you will be able to correct any malfunctions it may have without too much difficulty. I think that is one huge advantage you have over the others. They think you are a novelty, but you have everything dialed in and know just what you need to keep that scoot going. Let them underestimate you. I know you will prove them wrong!

I just wish you could make it to the Dam so we could all celebrate with you!!

Went to an estate auction today and picked up a 228f dated 9/64 with a safe, wrench and generator for $15.
Those safes are real paint killers.
I'm thinking of doing a kero conversion on it.

The safes are really cool to have in the collection, though. Great find for you!!

I have hit a few thrifts and haven't found anything....but I did win a free detail for my new-to-me Ranger that wasn't detailed when I bought it, won a $50 REI gift card (camping stuff!!!) and got a free doughnut and tons of coffee and 15% off some new mud-ready floor mats...all by hanging out at the local Ford dealer's Customer Appreciation Day!

Still..no vintage Coleman... :(

thanks! I think it was a great haul..I hit a few stops and got donations for our scooter rally, got more doughnuts and coffee..and some Cheez-its, sold a scooter at the scooter dealership, then went back to Ford and won the REI thing.

It was a pretty good day.

You are right about kowing every inch of this scooter since I build it all. But; you are mistaken about one thing. I plan on winning!

I might be at the Dam Gathering. But I will be tired. I will probably be riding home from San Diego after the cross country ride. Sue might be coming down with a trailer. So Maybe I will get a break. lol
