Good luck this weekend! I stopped drinking coffee a few years ago. Withdrawal was no fun.

Now Red Bull is just good. Happiness in a can. I would not have finished my tear had there been not Red Bull. Its all gone tomorrow.

Isn't that like concentrated caffeine in a can? Sounds like you want to burn yourself out at a young age!!!

I worked in the ground & roasted coffee business for over 30 years. I've warehoused it, sold it, managed the financial aspects of it and drank a few boat loads of it. A good cup of coffee first thing in the morning at camp and an old fashioned wood campfire if the weather is cool is about as good as it gets for me. The one thing I've found is that like anything else... you can overdo it. If I get to drinking too much of it, I just don't feel that good. But, I've also found that if I hold it to around two and no more than 3 cups a day ... no problems. I guess everyone reacts differently to it, but, that level of consumption seems to do me good with no "coffee jitters". I'm not about to give it up, but wish you nothing but success if you need to quit.

I recently, about a month ago, switched to 100% decaf. I tried my own blend of about 1/2 decaf 1/2 regular for a couple of months and finally converted entirely. No headaches, no withdrawals, no discenable side effects. This was after 50+ years of drinking at least 6 to 8 cups a day of the caffeinated stuff. Used to start with 2 or 3 12 oz. mugs in the morning and a couple more during the day. Never did drink it after about 4pm. I really don't feel much different but the afternoon naps are more restful and I can have a cup of coffee as a break drink in the late afternoon without causing any problems getting to sleep at bedtime.

It is 8:40 on Sat morning. Caffine free I would like to report. That was the worst part - not going to get the coffee. I am two dollars richer and will sleep much better.

I agree - or at least you wanna have some bad habits that don't kill you, to stop you having the sort of bad habits that do kill you.

I come from a long line of alcoholics (and genetic predisposition seems to be an important risk factor) so chose to be teetotal from an early age. About ten years ago I gave up smoking and went on a diet at the same time - not as daft as it seems, as the two wants are similar and you can always do something about food want, even if it's just celery. So I decided to commit myself to a really decent coffee addition and had about ten years use out of an espresso machine until it bit the dust a couple of weeks ago. Here is its replacement - which I guess is a bit like showing a junkie a picture of a loaded syringe, so sorry if it's tempting anyone:

Good luck. We switched to decaaf but I just drink coffee to drink something. Now there's so many flavored water products or just water, that I just filled my coffee cup with those at work and didn't notice the difference. I consume about a gallon of fluids a day at work, I worked about 12 hours a day and was on the phone most of the day.
We are each different but I was not hooked on the coffee, it was just a habit of drinking something.

I've never drunk coffee. I did, though, get up to 27 Methadone pills (270mg) per day. Took 6 months to taper off and still ended up in the hospital. They said no one could do what I did and I wasn't telling them the truth. I told me I could count and multiply! Professionals, what do they know? Won't do that again.

Cheers,

Gus

I love coffee...I don't put any sugar in it, just a bit of non fat milk. I love the taste of it. But I don't drink more than 2 cups per day. Monday through Thursday I only get about 1/2 a cup, if even that. And I don't drink it past 11:30 am. I start my coffee consumption, what little there is, at about 6:45-7 am...and the cup is usually untouched until about 10:30 when I finally get back to it and throw it out.

On the weekends I will have one or 2 cups per day. Of course I have a 3 day weekend. If I feel agitated after one cup, I won't have another. If I feel like I'm getting a migraine (usually due to lack of sleep) then I'll drink 2.

I would probably be just as happy with decaf..if I could find a decently dark roasted decaf. I just like the taste. But I am wary of it keeping me awake, so I won't drink it after noon.

Poor Kirk...sounds like you have overdone a good thing. If you need to have the coffee, do half caf or try all decaf. You will still get a warm flavorful drink. If that is what you are truly looking for.

Good luck!
