Dose anyone use or have a lantern reflector? Saw one in a junk shop they want $10. for it. I looked and could not find a maker name or mark. It dose have a black wood handle. What I would like to know if that is a good price for one and are they any good?

I think the reflectors are very good. Not only do they direct light they also help protect the glass. Ten bucks is a good price for one that is in good shape.

While I don't have a reflector for any of my lanterns, it would be a fun thing to have just cuz. For me, it's like the safe that attaches to the bottom...I got one, but don't use it, but good to have the accessory to round out the collection. Doug

Thought I saw a lantern with a reflector on here a while back that looked to be homemade. It appeared to be made out of sturdy aluminum. It was a half cylinder with an open bottom and a hole and two short slots cut into the top. The hole allowed the reflector to be mounted using the lantern's top thumb nut. The two short slots allowed clearance so the lantern's wire handle could come straight up for hanging the lantern.

I thought, if I had to, I could make one like it from a 2lb coffee can. That can size is a little small to fit over a small hat lantern, but figured I could split the sides a little from the bottom (top of the reflector) and offset the mounting hole to make it work.

Feel free to use this idea as you see fit. If you make a coffee can reflector, let us know how it works. Show us some pictures.

(Added) Thinking about it a little more, that aluminum half cylinder I saw made into a reflector could have been a cut-up aluminum pot. Could probably find a suitable cheap one at a Goodwill/thrift store.

I made this one. I used some 1/8" X 3/4" aluminium stock, part a a solar tub, a piece of dowel & some pop rivets.

I have mine in my hand as I type.. ok , so it's actually in my lap.. It has Coleman on it ! This is the first time I've looked at it this closely. There isn't a model # on it , but the Coleman logo is stamped on it ! The wood handle is painted black.

I've never used it (yet) but will be gettin a bunch of em workin THIS year ! I got the reflector at a yard sale.. it was connected to a Lantern and got em both fer $5 !!

My son bought me one for Christmas last year at Cabela's. Don't see them online, though. You could go to Coleman's website (Coleman.com) & put in your model # to find the part.

One of my fav sources for camping itmes is Ebay. No matter what part or item you want, someone has it. Much cheaper, usually. There are several sellers who buy Coleman's returns & sell them. Coleman doesn't want to resell products that have been opened. I've seen tons of lanterns at thrift/resale shops, too. My motto is never pay full price! When one has 4 kids to feed, you tend to become a great bargain shopper! Those days are mostly gone, but I still love the game!

It can't replace the fun of making it yourself, however.

That's a decent price for a reflector in good condition. The black handle makes it likely a Coleman model designed to fit a 220 lantern. It will likely fit any model 220, although the top strap may need to be bent slightly up or down to fit the older B,C,D,E models with the high vent vs the F, H, J or K models with the lower vent.
