CT Conversion finally started

We it is official started insulating the ceiling of the CT. Have glued up the foil faced bubble ramp. The next stage is to start installing the foam board between the ceiling spars. After tha will run 1/2x1 furring strips length wise to attach the ceiling panels to. Went to RV dealer today to get some tripod jacks for the corners of my work trailer decided to look at some TT man was I suprised by the shoddy work. They were still on the lot and the paneling was already coming lose everywhere and the wanted $16,000.00 for it. Glad I have the desire to make something with more quality. Already got my order into the wife for some custom made quilts since that is one of the things she loves doing among many. Will post some photos next week end. Till then all enjoy the day.

Nice! Can't wait to see some pics. I just bought some of my insulation today. Still trying to decide whether I want to go with 1/4" of foil/bubble and 3/4" of foam, or just go with 1" of foam. Your opinions?

Well I went with foil bubble wrap first as a way to try and reduce condensation that always seems to form on metal surface. Second I an installing foil faced foam installation. Al this is going to be between the roof spars. I an then going to run furring strips length wise and the insulate between that. The final will be a yet unchoosen material to complete the ceiling. It seems to me that since most of the heat from the sun comes from the roof; however this just an assumption on my part.

Well got phase one of the roof insulation done. Learned a few things along the way. A rotary cutter from the local craft store works extremely well, much better then using a box cutter(please note this rotary cutter will cut you without remorse). Have started phase two which will be the foam insulation.. My daugther provide me with this last image and it is so true

Good Morning,

Well the work (which I am actually enjoying) is continuing. I am almost done with the second layer of insulation in the roof. Then I will add 1/2 X 3 inch strips to the roof sparrs to insulate the trailer from the heat they generate. I am a firm believer that the sparrs if not insulated would be the same as is opening the back ramp on my trailer in the dead of summer. I have started removing the panels from the right side wall of the trailer and was pleased with seeing that when WELLS CARGO builds a trailer that it is done well. The trailer is 7 years old and only had surface rust on the framing structure in the walls. I was pleased to see that the vertical structure was welded on both sides top and bottom. They say that the AUTOWAGON is built to be on the road for 20 years or more. I remove the glue that was used along with screws and scruffed up the rust and painted with Rusty Metal Primer. The next stage will to be installing 1/2 inch thick insulation between the wall structure. It seems to be going slow but working 60 plus hours a week does not leave much time for the trailer. Well got some more work done on the trailer this weekend. I am ready to install the interior wall on the passenger side of the trailer. It is hard to put in to works the sound the uninsulated wall with out the 1X3 Inch furring strips makes and the sound and feel of the wall makes when it is insulated with foam board between the vertical and expanding foam in the channel of the vertical spar. I hope to start installing the wall this week. Have to have it all done by 1 July as we will be going camping in it that following week.

Looking good. Your insulating yours a lot like I did mine. I didn't do the wood strips on the walls though. I just put the 3/8" plywood back on and covered that with some luan. The strips probably cut down on the weight. Only thing to keep in mind most of the trailer places I talked to wouldn't leave off the inside plywood because they said it was part of the structure of the trailer. Not sure how much it really matters. I'm sure you will have some kind of paneling or plywood on the walls so maybe thats enough.

LoL got to say. There was a lot of building my trailer that was fun to do.. The insulation wasn't to bad, But I was Very glad when I stuck that last piece in. With the foil, then the 3/4" foam then the furring strips and then the 1/2 foam between them I am glad I took the time to do it though cause the trailer holds its temp very well.

Hello 8Ball,

The intent has always been to re-install interior plywood type paneling in the trailer. I finally found the type I want that will not break the bank since I will need 18 sheets to do the inside. It will be a light gray with white on the ceiling. I got till the first week of July to finish. The trailer is already wired for 110 as it was used to camp in before at that time is when I decided it needed the insulation.

Hello All,
I paid for the interior wall material for the CT this weekend. Approximately $370.00 for nineteen sheets should be in tomorrow. I get to start the installation on Tuesday evening. Since I started the update of the trailer this is the single biggest out lay. To date I have used the following.

1) 5 Rolls OF aluminum tape at approximately $8.00 per roll.
2) 5 Cans of spray foam at approximately $3.75 per can
3) 5 Sheets of 4X8 3/4 Inch R-Max Foam Board
4) 6 Sheets of 4X8 1/2 Inch R-Max Foam Board

No cost of seeimg something that will last longer then any new or fairly new Travel Trailer that is being put together with my own two hands. (Not bad for a Calibration Technician)

Well Home Depot was good to their word. Picked up Interior Paneling today. 4X8X11/32 T-11 Paneling 1.6 Inch OC.

Thought I would upload the reason for the season and most camping trips. A house divided but united, TEXAS A&M and TEXAS Longhorns. Go TEXAS.

Well cut my first interior panel today then it got to dark to see. I will nail it up tomorrow. Should have the windowless side done this weekend up to the door. I stood the panel up against the wall looked really sweet. More this weekend.
