bedliners for tow vehicles (trucks, or course!!)

I finally got a tow vehicle last weekend. 2007 Ford Ranger Super Cab 2x2.

As some of you know, I also have a Vespa 250 scooter...the reason I got a truck as a tv. I need a bed liner..but NOT the plastic kind, but the spray-on or roll-on kind.
I know many of you are paint experts, and there are a lot of people with a lot of experience here. I am thinking the best method would be to shell out and get the liner sprayed on professionally..but which brand? Or are they all pretty much the same?

The other option is to get one of those roll-on kits..someone suggested it to me, and I've seen the kits, but are they really any good? Or is this something that really needs to be left to the pros. I'm thinking it is and that one could get in a world of bad stuff when it starts to go south after a year or two of using it.

Thoughts folks? The truck is obviously used, and it was a fleet vehicle. The bed is not dented, but scratched. And I want a non-skid surface, or at least a non-slippery surface for getting the scoot in there.

I loved my Z-Bart liner on my '04 GMC Canyon. It never scratched through, it never scratched anything I was hauling, and it was skid-proof. Yes, more expensive than painting it myself, but I didn't have to clean up afterwards.

Also, as I recall, I wasn't allowed to close the tailgate for 24 or 48 hours--just a warning.

I had the LineX done. I got the pickup 3 months ago, and have hauled a few loads of firewood in it. I like it. My cat likes it. Apparently, on a cool sunny day, he can absorb the heat better in the black pickup bed.

I could close the tailgate right away. The brochure said not to haul anything for a day or two, the dealer disagreed. I did not haul anything worse than a bag of dogfood for a couple of days. They did a beautiful job. The cost? $500 for an over the side. It may be less in a metropolitan area? Who knows.

They take all the bolts out before spraying so that would be the labor intensive part. I don't know how it affects towing
I tried the pickup and trailer out for the first time a couple weeks ago and it did fine.

The cat? Yesterday was too warm for the black lined pickup. He was in the back of the white pickup.

I was wondering about the bolts..and the tie downs all ready in place on the sides of the bed. I think it's over $500 here, but maybe not for a small truck. I've heard good things about that brand.

I'm not sure if I'll go over the rails or if I'll put rail caps on..there was a tool box on the bed and it left some marks that they touched up a bit..so I would like something to hide that.

As with anything else, the do it yourself bedliners are fine, but there is a lot of prep work if you want them to last like the pro jobs. There are special cup wheels that are used to scuff the surface of the bed, and it is rather time consuming process. There are epoxy based bedliners, and urethane based. There are black, white, and tintable versions. The best results for a good visual appeal, are achieved using a compressor and a shutz gun (undercoating gun) but careful application with a roller can result in satisfactory looks.

Kit's run for about 75.00 on up, and the good kits by Upol, Sem, or US Chemical will run you closer to $150.00.

But yeah, the Ford will be a good truck. Especially now that it has front shocks. Yes it had them before, but they were shot. Now the thing rides great..

yeah, and sometimes I have multiple online conversations going..you see me online here, but I'm really over on another page talking about scooters and how to modify a chock for the front tire from HF, and finding DO recipes for appetizers for a vintage rally all at the same time as texting my neighbor about his trailer..I really don't just sit here for hours. Sometimes I'm outside, sometimes I'm not even home.

And sometimes my brain isn't on yet!

I was going to get Line-X applied to mine but never got around to it, then I just didn't have the money to get it done. I've compared the professionally applied systems (Line-X & Rhino) with thr DIYs and the DYI didn't seem as robust.

Although there are lots of rust under the bedliner stories with drop ins, I had none with my old Mazda/Ranger. I had it on Coastal FL for 3yrs, it was 13 yrs old when I traded it in, I pulled the liner right before I brought it in and there was zero rust. Just take any suggestions (including mine) with a grain of salt.

Have you considered a rubber bed mat ? A cheap one is about $40:00 and a good one is about $75:00. I could never justify the $500:00 that they wanted for the spray-on bed liners. They do a great job and look nice but the bed mats always did the job for me.

Mats and drop in liners can be a bit hazardous with the scooter...

I was checking out the Rhino liner too..I'll get some quotes, and that Line-X looks good, Stumphugger...looks really nice, and very durable!!

I don't think you could go wrong with either the LineX or the Rhinoliner. I've had Rhino in our truck since 2002 and it's gone through countless loads of gravel, dirt, mulch, firewood and camping gear. The only issue I ever had was - they sprayed over the bed bolts - should have been a non-issue until a deer collided with the truck (he hit me! really!) and the bed had to be removed. The rhino had to be cut away from the bolts, and it never looked as pretty after that. Makes sure to remove the bolts before application - just don't let them forget to the bolts back in when its done!

Where I live almost every person has a pickup. I see many bedliners. Mostly what I see is spray on bed liners dont last forever - then what? The bed ends up kind of half peeling half scraped chipped, cut and mangled. And they all break down in the sun. Looks like a big mess to me. If you haul wood or rocks that stuff will still dent the bed you just cant see the damage as good. Mats and plastic inserts protect the bed better in my opinion. The only time I could see a spray on bedliner is if you were fixing a really old bed that was already messed up.
