Hitch Class

OK, so I just had a Class 1 hitch (plus wiring) installed on my 2007 Kia Rondo at U-Haul. While there, they also sold me a 1 7/8" ball mounted to a drawbar with a 3 1/8" rise. Everything looks good, but I noticed that the drawbar is Class 2. Any concerns I should be aware of using a Class 1 hitch with a Class 2 drawbar????? Sorry if it's a silly questions, I'm still new to all this...

That just means that your draw bar is rated for a higher load than you hitch. Youre good to go.

Awesome!!!!! Thanks for confirming that Zach. Means I can finally move the trailer I purchased from the seller's backyard tonight and start stripping off the old soft-top canvas, walls, and floor to begin my build. BTW, my build will be loosley inspired by the convertable TD plans available on eBay (which I did NOT purchase), plus a TON of inspiration from your builds as well. (Absolutely love your TD's.) Now I just have to find a way to come in under budget to make my wife happy too!

Gonna need to start a build thread tonight...

A class 1 hitch is rated for 200 pounds of hitch weight, the class 2 hitch has a tongue weight of 350 pounds.
your class 1 hitch with a class 2 drawbar will still only hold 200 max hitch weight and a tow rating of 2000 pounds of trailer.
I used a class 1 hitch on my chevy van and I towed a scamp coast to coast couple of times no problem.
I did have a transmission cooler heat will kill a transmission

Thanks for the info, Pete. My car has a tow limit of 1000lbs (1500lbs with trailer brakes), and I'm planning to be well under that. I did also consider a transmission cooler, but will only be camping close to home (within a 2hr drive). If I decide to drive to either coast, a transmission cooler will be top of my list.
