Hi all...

Here's the stuff I ended up using. It was some left over ice flashing material my neighbor had -- kind of a rubber/plastic, real sticky on one side, somewhat sticky on the other. Only about about 1/16th inch thick. Seemed to work pretty good when I bolted everything together. Should help cushion the wood and the metal against road vibration and grim getting in between. (I hope.)

Good Idea! There's also a sticky thread on using that as the undercoating,
so you could accomplish two objectives using that.
