Spring Swarp Out

Postby stumphugger » Tue Apr 03, 2012 4:00 pm

Swarp is a term used in many ways. Here it means taking all the bedding out and runnning it through the washer.

I feel crazy. Before the monsoon hit, in November, I took the mattresses and everything out and cleaned the Little Guy out. I used it one night--Christmas. But it has the shut up too long trailery smell so I'm doing it again. The trailery smell is not mildew or mold or even a damp smell. The trailer has a new smell, which I blamed last year on the Damp Rid. The trailer is dry inside and out, I just feel the need to wash stuff.

I don't want to air it out in the shop building. There's a cat who lives in there part time, and I'm allergic to cats. It not the cleanest of places.

I don't want to air it outside, when it isn't raining, the alder pollen is flying about and turning things yellow, and yes, I'm allergic to that too.

So, I am running bedding through the washer. I'm airing out the sleeping bags in the house. I'm hoping to get out somewhere sunnnnier and away from the alders soon!

Maybe camp up at the pass where there is 14 feet of snow yet. Or should I say Yeti?
Do any of you go through this madness? I'm not usually a neat and tidy person.

Spring Swarp Out

Postby Verna » Tue Apr 03, 2012 6:32 pm

When I bought the SideKick last year, it also had an unpleasant odor. I used "Odoban" from Sam's Club to thoroughly clean from roof to floor. I took the cushions out and sprayed them with Odoban and let them air out outside for 24 hours. I scrubbed all surfaces, including inside the cabinets. It worked. I've tried to keep a window "cracked" all winter and it doesn't smell like it did last year.

My new-to-me Little Guy has an odor, but it smells more like MDF glue to me. I think I'll just have to learn to tolerate that odor. I'll be scrubbing it with Odoban from ceiling to floor later this week.

I think it is glue or materials used. You'd think that the smell would be gone, it is a 2009. Once the windows are open and the fan working, it gets OK.

Tomorrow, I'll vacuum out the fir needles. It is amazing what gets tracked in during a one night stay. Most of it is on The Dog Heater's side.

up...we are doing the spring swarp here at Dragonfire Root Beer headquarters. The Grasshopper is here now, the hatch leaked, it has a smell from some icky perfumy fabreeze junk, put on to cover smoke smell. SO...the trailer gets opened up during the day..the galley has been wiped down, the inside has been wiped down..cushions removed and airing..Doug's miracle de-stink spray has been applied to the cushions..waiting for a day off to replace the vent...then I'll figure out how to clean the rug..then I'll load the inside with stuff like band-aids and Kleenex, put the cushions in and hope I can driveway camp before the dam. If not..well, that's the way it goes. Got vintage 70's afghans drying on the line, need to polish and reweb the folding aluminum camp chairs..juice the meyer lemons to add to the lemonade for camp..try out the 10x10 and see if the clearance sides I found will work..detail the truck...get a slightly less of a drop hitch...

yeah..everything is getting the swarp!

The best thing I've found for getting rid of the funky smells in trade ins at the yard is mix some 20 mule team Borax in water and wipe down all the hard surfaces in the trailer.
Also used in mold remediation
If it ain't broke, fix it till it is

Drink a half pint of whiskey before you get in at night. You won't care what it smells like.
