reciever hitch question

I was given a trailer protector, a brush material that slips on the receiver to protect the trailer from rocks etc. The trailer protector hits my bumper not allowing the receiver to slide in the hitch far enough to insert the receiver pin. My hitch has 2 holes, one is for the bigger pin, and the other (closer to the back of the hitch)is for the smaller pin. I had thought of drilling out the smaller hole, but looks like a good knuckle buster. My pin lock can be used with either size pin hole, for the bigger hole it has a sleeve that slips over it, could I get another sleeve, cut it down to fit into the receiver, allowing me to use the smaller hole in the hitch. By my thinking this will reduce my hitch to a lighter class, but my teardrop falls well within a class 2 hitchs towing capacity, I wouldn't use this setup when towing my car trailer. By the way the hitch is a 2 inch (sorry don't remember what class)on a 98 Dodge Dakota. I have looked around and havent been able to find a longer reciever.

My thought would be to modify the "freebe" protector (portion) and not compromise the receiver or your insert....

BTW, I have a rock Tamer for the truck to help protect the trailer and it works better than I thought it would.

Would the longer ball mount shown on their website be a possible solution for you?
It seems they make it for that purpose. It doesn't say if it's a "universal" solution
or not though.
