FRP for roof under alum skin?

Postby Glenn Quarles » Sun Apr 08, 2012 5:53 am

Hi friends, with all the talk about plywood gone bad I was wondering if I could use the FRP sheets as the roof of my tear. It will be covered with alum. It looks like normal construction adhesive along with the screws used around the edges of the alum should hold it in place just fine. Am I missing something I haven't thought of?

"Clark" and I thank you!

Hi Glenn,

You could, but it wouldn't offer much, if any structural strength.
It is designed as a "finish" surface, the same as aluminum.
It would be easier to just use thicker aluminum.

While being cautious about plywood is okay, it would make more sense to learn why trailers leak, and prevent those leaks, instead of trying to build with water proof materials to accommodate the leaks...
