Harbor Freight Stamping Set: Product review

My trailer registration process required that I stamp the state issued VIN numbers onto the frame. I was a bit leery of the results I would obtain using the Harbor Freight stamping set but for a bit over 6 bucks w/coupon decided I'd give it a try.
I used a hand-held sledge hammer and gave each stamp 6 solid hits. I was pleased with the results.

If you're needing to stamp numbers or letters onto steel, this set will do the job.

That's a more comprehensive test than I've done. I bought a set of those and have so far only used them to stamp lead ingots.

It's not as hard as a trailer frame, but they do just fine on lead too, in case anyone wonders.

I used them to number main and rod caps for a Cheby.They worked well in cast iron.

Ok... I'll fess up. The amazing thing about the stamp set is that you just hold the stamp over the metal, then say the magic words and... wallah! Raised lettering! Cool, huh? I think they're magnetic or something.

+1 for the HF set..I use it 5-10x daily to mark serial ##'s on thick Stainless Steel equipment tags Over 1 year of constant use and no signs of wear.

I've got one of those HF Stamp sets, I use 3/4" X 1/8" aluminum flat stock and pop rivet my VIN number tags onto the trailer tongues. Never know when you might want to change one..

Yes, officer, I'm sure that is the correct tag for this trailer and that all of the registration fees for this trailer have been paid. That's my story and I'm sticking to it officer.
