Nice plane. Looks a lot like the one in the Air and Space Museum in D.C.

But I wouldn't want to fly in it. There's a reason they call the Ford Trimoter the "Tin Goose" or the "Flying Washboard".

I have had the opportunity to fly in a tri-motor twice. The first time was at an airshow with my dad in the 70's. The second time was at the big airshow in Oshkosh WI with my son. Memories I'll never forget. Unlike modern airplanes you can see everything going on in the cockpit if you're sitting towards the front.

This is what I have:

The first two was taken at the Fantasy of Flight museum in Polk City, FL. The second pair is from the Kalamazoo Air Zoo in Zalamazoo, MI. I don't remember which one but they offered rides in one or both of them.

Interestingly enough, We also went to the Henry Ford museum but I didn't take a picture of the one they had there.

Is that a sliding windscreen/windshield on the Tri-Motor??? I hate to think what happens if it opens in flight!

Nicest view out of any passenger airplane was the old De Havilland Rapide. Lovely wicker tub chairs bolted to the floor.

And check out the swivelling opening windows on the Rapide cockpit.

I was only young when we used this plane and my main memory is of an old lady who needed help to get up the slope of the plane on the ground - one of the ground crew put his shoulder to her backside and pushed her up to the front row!

Just remove the spaces next to the brackets at the beginning and end. I had seen someone do it on a message board, (don't remember if it was this one or not) so I Googled it. Google can make you look smart when you really have no idea what you are doing.

One thing I found is to make sure all the spaces are removed. When the text wraps around, it is difficult to see if there are any spaces.

What is the function of the stick in the center of the cockpit?



I'm assuming that the foot pedals control the rudder and the alerons and elevator are controled by the steering wheel and yoke.

Nah, the big stick in the middle is always the gear shift.

But why it needs three headlamp dip switches, on the floor, I don't know....

Well,

I was kind of joking...but after a bit of searching, I found this.

"When I was about eight I was in the right seat of the Trimotor Ford and I thought I was going to get my chance to take it off. Dad had to use his left hand on the throttles and his right hand on the Johnson bar brake handle between the seats."

So, parking and steering brake??
