WARNING FOR PET OWNERS!

Postby eaglesdare » Mon Apr 16, 2012 8:39 am

i am posting this here in order to get the word out to as many as i possibly can.

Please keep Gorilla Glue out of reach of pets as well as children! DO NOT TAKE GORILLA GLUE FOR GRANTED. yes i am screaming as loud as i can to get the word out!

i never gave it a thought. i have had gorilla glue around here since last march, and until yesterday i have never given it a second thought. simba (my 7 month old collie pup) got ahold of a bottle. this morning i took him to the vets and he is going to have emergency surgery this morning. there is a huge mass inside his stomach.

i checked the internet to search out gorilla glue and dogs. wow, is all i can say. it seems dogs are somewhat attracted to it and many, many dogs have ingested GG with huge masses in their stomachs. emergency surgery is what happens.

please keep simba in your thoughts today, and please keep gorilla glue away from dogs!
Louella
May the foam be with you.

Oh, Louella.....doggone it, I knew about the dangers of Gorilla Glue from a woodworking forum and from e-mails. I really, really sorry to hear about your puppy. We all know they are as bad, if not worse than kids, about putting stuff in their mouths.

Sending positive thoughts and prayers your way--I know what a canine companion means to us.

Sorry to hear about Simba Louella and we're sending positive thoughts your way!! Also watch for Nyla bones, one of ours bit one in 3 pieces and ate them and middle section got stuck in his intestine and they had to remove 5" of it from him. We'll be saying a few prayers for the lil guy.

Oh, Louella! I am so sorry to hear that Simba had such a problem. I hope that everything comes out okay.

I would not have guessed that a dog would eat Gorilla Glue, so thanks for the heads up on that. Too bad you had to learn that the hard way, though.

Im sorry to hear about that. I have 3 dogs that follow me around as i build. I worried that they will try to lick up the epoxy as i was coating it and the drip would hit the floor. yet it didnt happen. Prays your way for the little one.

thanks so much everyone. simba came home last night. not feeling well at all. he stood the whole way home in the van, would not sit. stood most of the evening and night also, with his head hung low. even put his head on the bed and slept standing that way for a while. i guess laying down was a bit painful. this morning he is moving much better. not himself yet, but getting around and starting to act like normal.
i gave him a little bit to eat, and he did fine with that, now he is laying down next to me on the couch. so he's getting there.

i feel really stupid because i left an open bottle of gorilla glue on the deck. there was also a full closed bottle next to it. the opened one i was about to throw away, as not too much more was in it and was getting to hard to get it out. so i seriously did not think about it. we do sometimes take things for granted with our kids and pets.

simba will be fine, i will be broke, but this is a good experience and reminder to keep safty in the mix of things. watch out for what we have laying around the shop, garage, decks etc.

i do believe from my reading up on this though that gorilla glue has a smell/taste that dogs like or are attracted to. a nutty/maple(lish) flavor. so i think that is why simba went for the opened bottle and not the closed one. sort of like antifreeze.

anyway, thank you all for the thoughts and good wishes.

So sorry for Simba's trouble. How terrible. I have a medium size bottle of GG that has gone missing from when I was working on my vintage Red Dale. I do not think it is around anymore though. I will have to keep an eye on Miss. Daisy cause she is underfoot when I am working on the tear. Best wishes for Simba's quick recovery.

I'm so glad Simba is coming around. I've always thought it was so amazing how quickly dogs and cats respond to surgery. We'd be down for days, and Simba is already up. That's a great thing.

I took my Gorilla Glue out of the kitchen (had it there for a repair) and put it back in the wall cabinet in the workshop. Thanks for the reminder.

Good to hear an inadvertent mishap has a good outcome.

I'ts hard to monitor pets and little kids so all you can do
is do your best. Thank goodness it has become a learning
experience and not something worse.

Cheers,
