Sorry to hear of the loss of your pet. It's one of life's little blessings to
have had the benefit of the companionship they give.

Sam: I am very sorry to hear of your loss of your best friend. It is so hard to believe we can become so attached to our pets. I treat mine like my children. I had one of my Chihuahuas die last year. I had him for 20 plus years. I got him from the animal pound when he was about a year old. If I had not taken him home with me the day I did, he was set for a date with the executioner the next day. I never regretted having him join my family. He was very faithful to me because I was the person "HE" owned. Maybe you can get you another best friend that you can take camping with you real soon. Take care...

So sorry to hear about your puppy. They are always our puppies even at the end aren't they. My sincere condolences.

I know your pain. We recently lost our cat, Teddy. People who don't have pets will say, "it's just a dog, or cat". We know better. They're a whole bunch of love wrapped in fur.

I'm so sorry...I've had plenty of 4 legged friends, but none were camping buddies. You will find another when one needs you...in the meantime, you and Sable will meet again..You did the right thing...it's hard, but it's the kind thing to do. You just released your buddy from a failing body..the soul will still be with you when you camp...your camping buddy will still be with you in spirit.

I know it's a hard thing to go through..we all wish our 4 footed friends could live as long as we do...but another one will find you when you least expect it. Maybe even while camping. When it's time, there will be another buddy for you. In the meantime, cherish your memories of Sable, and go camp in memory of her!

Take care!

That's always a tough time Sam.
My li'l buddy's going on 8 and shes starting to slow down.

The saving grace is that, while we can see it coming......they can't.

Thanks for the responses.
I would have replied yesterday, but the screen kept blurring.
Think at 56 I’d be past the blubbering stage.

Sure strange in the morning now. First time in over 30 years I haven’t had a dog in the house. No one to let out, put food down for, or give an ear scratch.

I wish Miss Sable had made it another week. I wanted to take her on the maiden trip of the tear. During the months I was building the tear, she was there to point out mistakes, and offer solutions. Of course, most of the solutions involved getting me a cup of coffee and a bone for her.

She never neglected her primary duty though.

I assigned her an important task when she was just a pup.

Pterodactyl guard.

Her job was to keep an eye out for Pterodactyls and chase them away.

She was real good at it, in the 13 years, I never saw a Pterodactyl.

Sorry to hear about Sable, Sam. But she did a real good job. I haven't seen a Pterodactyl in the last 13 years either!

I completely understand your pain, having lost my camping/ companion buddy a couple of years ago. Thing is with a dog...it's complete unconditional love. So sorry to hear of your loss. Doug

Sam, I'm so sorry to hear about Sable's passing. You did the right thing even tho it doesn't feel like it right now. I hope you will still be able to find joy in your maiden voyage with your new Tear.
