2010-11 Homebuilt Teardrop $7000 Sold

Postby Justin & Katy » Wed Jan 04, 2012 6:22 pm

The time has come to sell our Teardrop. We built it last year and we've been able to use it only three times. Because we are adding to our family, it's no longer feasible for us to use it. I have attached a link to my photo album and my build journal. Feel free to ask questions. I can also come up with some more pictures if you need me to.

We're located in Amarillo, TX.

Wow....that sure is beautiful. It will be a wonderful teardrop for someone.

May I suggest that you put the specs somewhere in a post.

People are going to want to know how much it weights, overall length/width, tire size, and all of that stuff.

I have seen this Teardrop while it was being built and afterward, camping with Justin and Katy, it is very well built and a real work of art, love and perfection. If I did not already have mine I would jump on this one. You can't beat the workmanship for the very reasonable price.

Hi, I'm new, I'm Marianne (husband is Jim) from the St. Louis area. Love this trailer & might have to make it ours! I hope it's a 5 wide, I have a big burly hubby & we won't fit a 4 wide. Waiting for the specs!

You know, you could turn this into a 'raindrop' like Camp-Inn makes. It'd be a shame to sell your beautiful work of art! But, if you're going to sell, I'm looking! Best of luck to you with the new addition to the family!

BTW, love the Newbie Welcome telling me y'all are a tad crazy. Makes me feel welcome, I'm a tad crazy myself!

Hello, thanks for the interest in our teardrop. Sorry it’s taken me a while to post the specs, I haven't been on the forum in a while. The trailer is around 5'x16' and the teardrop is 5'x11'. We made it a 5x11 to accommodate the storage compartment. After visiting with other teardrop owners, I'm really happy that we decided to do that. To my knowledge, it's the only one of its kind. Before finishing the galley, I weighed it and it came in just under 1400lbs. With the galley completed and the trailer loaded, I'm thinking it weighs around 1900lbs. The top and sides are insulated with 1.5" Styrofoam insulation. The sides of the trailer are half inch plywood skinned with .040 aluminum. Mike (Cashcow) and I welded up the frame ourselves. We put a 2000lb brake axle on it. I never hooked up the brakes because it's not all that heavy and my truck didn't have a problem stopping. It has a seven pin plug. As you can from the pictures in my album, it has reverse lights on the sides and back. They work great! I have never had a problem backing into campsite after dark. I connected the deep cycle battery to the trailer plug so that it will charge while towing. All of the lights I put on the trailer are LED's. I used LED's in the cabin, storage compartment, and galley because they draw very little juice from the battery. There is an AM/FM CD player in the cabin with an auxiliary input so you can plug your laptop or MP3 player in and listen to it through the speaker in the cabin and/or galley. The speakers in the cabin are 5.25". The ones in the galley are 6.5" components. There is a 12 volt and a 110 volt outlet in the cabin. That's what I can think of off the top of my head. Please write back with whatever questions you may have.

Rats! Wish we could, but my vehicle won't tow that much. Looks like we're going to have to build to get it the correct weight. I love your storage area & hope we can do something similar. Good luck with it, it really is a great trailer!

Hello,

I'm new to the forum, been lurking around for a while, I'm pretty interested in your Teardrop, Is it still forsale?
Also, I read in one of your posts that you put a 2000 lb brake axle in the build, and that it weighs around 1900 lb, to me that seems pretty close to the maximum axle specs?
Any issues with that, How does it tow, thinking of towing with a small truck 1/2 ton or 3/4, or maybe an SUV. What is the current asking price, and is it firm?

Thank you,

Southerndude :)

Thanks for the interest in our trailer. It is still for sale. The asking price is $7,000 but we are willing to negotiate. I have absolutely no concerns about the axle in relation to the weight of the trailer. It pulls very well. I've never had any issues with it moving side to side. It is also very well balanced front to back.
