Greetings from the land downunder

Postby Murrum » Thu Apr 19, 2012 4:45 pm

G'day,

I'm Chris from Australia. I live on a couple of acres just outside the Australian Capital Territory (Canberra) and started building a TD about three months ago. Even though I'm retired there doesn't seem enough time to give to it, but I am making progress. Fairly basic design using eight by four sheet and while trying to get the most floor space I can I am also very carefull to keep the weight down as I will be towing it with a Morris Minor, and although it's got Datsun power it's still a light little car.

I started a build diary-web page which I update pretty regularly and I'd like to hear what people think, but I will post some photos on the forum soon. I have a birthday in June which is my revised target date for completion, and in August I am planning a trip with the Morris Minor Touring Club of about 4,000 miles though NSW and Queensland.

Anyway that'l do for now.

Welcome Chris,

We spent five weeks in Tewantin/Noosa, Queensland last year and absolutely loved it. Your build looks like it is coming along great....and with a lot of forethought. There was a Mini Cooper rally going on in the area while were there and enjoyed seeing so many originals.

Good luck on your build,
Mark and Pat

Welcome to the Forum!
Look forward to pictures of your build.
We are almost finished ours and hope to take it cross country to a Studerbaker meet this summer.

Thanks for the welcome messages, I've found some forums aren't as friendly, and as a first time builder it's good to get a bit of encouragement along the way.

In reply to a couple of comments -
Noosa is a lovely part of NSW, unfortunately we don't share their weather.
Canberra population is about 300,000 now, I've been in the area dor 22 years, it was 250,000 when I arrived, so even with all the government spending cuts it's still growing.
A Studebaker Hawk would have to be my dream car, but in the meantime it's a 1957 Morris Minor 2 door sedan as a tow car. It has a 1400cc "A series" (up from the standard 948cc) engine from a Sunny, gearbox is a 5 speed Corolla unit.

Anyway I'm hoping for a nice day tomorrow so I can get a sheet on the roof. I'll post a picture as soon as I can.
