Have you tried it in your tear yet? Other members have built similar rigs and they've only worked a couple of hours.

Slow, what do you need a swamp cooler for anyway? I live over here in Idaho. I am almost 62 yo. I am fatter than dumbo and I do not have AC in anything, Not in house, not in cars/pickups/suvs or in my teardrop. I do just fine. I even survived a week on a dry dusty lake bed last year in late summer. Now I do like the AC in the tractors and combines, I will not complain about them there. Though the new combine they are getting this year has a refrigerator under the jump seat. I find little use for that. Might keep my drinking water a bit cooler than the air conditioned cab but as far as keeping lunch cool why bother? As there is no way of knowing what will happen during the work day when I leave home, I will still have my little insulated lunch box and ice pack as who knows what will happen. Might just end up doing other things so for me that frig is basically there to run price of the combine up a bit more. It is standard on all of the new John Deere combines so you pay for it even if you don't need/want it. What a racket.

Bruce

if you read the I'ble there is a quote from a member here about his 10 lbs of ice lasting 6 hrs, plenty of people use swamp coolers with ice, the idea must work, I'm not sure about the volume of ice needed. for my car I found the cooler I used with the heater core put out plenty of cold air for 2-3 hours and there was still plenty of ice the next morning after being off for the night.
I don't think the ice water pump would have to run continuously in a TD it it was set up like my wiring diagram shows, with a thermostat to control the pump.
the body cooler design will work with a rather small cooler of ice, the guy who posted the design first was a mail carrier in TX, his lunch box sized cooler of ice lasted all day in 100 degree heat.

If a person was, or has built a well insulated TD. Why not put the ice in a tub attached to the ceiling? ( inside of course )

in a really humid place you would just feel cold and clammy (sp?) not the best feeling to wake up to, in low humidity it would work ok.

Well summers coming up, how about you do some testing and post your results?

I will when I get a chance, I just returned to work after an arm injury that made me have to sit and rest for a month, so money is tight. I also moved last august and am trying to sell my house, I am also a caretaker and fill in pastor for a church now. I need to finish my TD before I can test my heater or a/c ideas. I had my TD sleepable but nothing else, since then the trailer had to be used for a utility trailer, I am debating putting the TD back on the trailer frame or going with a light weight design using torflex type axles and a bolted on tongue.
I plan on using the td for my anniversary this year as our youngest (of four) is old enough to stay with grandparents.
so the a/c testing may be a little way off, unless I just hook it up in the TD in the garage on jack stands
I really want to try
