More info on my HiLo. It is a 16'x7.5' 1984 HiLo trailer. We enjoyed our teardrop when we had it, for my wife
to enjoy our camp outs more we needed something with a bathroom. We made the first 4 LCG and missed
the last two.The first one was in a tent. I am hoping I can make this one campable for this year LCG. We have
our site reserved (site #31).

The Hi-Lo is an interesting trailer! I hope to see yours in person at LCG and look forward to your restoration pictures.

I've been kicking around building a "Hi-Lo like" TTT and in my research I came across parts for the glides, cables, and rollers for the Hi-Lo. The lifting design seems pretty straight forward to me, but I haven't been able to get my mind around how to seal the upper and lower halves when it is in the up position.

Anyway, please post lots of pictures.

This trailer was neglected for a number of years. The first thing I had to do was remove the hydraulic pump.
The 12 volt starter motor - OK. The pump - OK. The reservoir can(3 Quart) bad shape. There were a large amount of holes at the underside of the can. The only thing I could do was use JB weld to cover the holes. I got it to hold fluid (auto transmission fluid) was able to make the top go up and down. It still has a leak, but usable hopefully till I can make repairs. I will get a new one later ( cost about as much as I paid for the
camper).
The reason their is so much damage in the bath(ceiling and walls) is because of the the 12 volt vent fan . The top of the vent fan was off-was never fixed and water got in the walls and ceiling.
The reason their is ceiling damage where the drop down bed is located ( I have taken this out and will not use) is on the outside there is an awning box That became partially disconnected. I believe this is where water got in. I will stop here so that my post is not to long. Later I will take pictures of wall and ceiling construction after I remove some plywood and insulation. I am hoping to make repairs from inside.

Billy you can now get the spray stuff that seals everything. I wonder if you can use that for the can. Hoping you get it done in time to go camping!

Yes I know what you are talking about. I think I saw that advertised on T.V. after I had fixed the unit. I believe I will use it on the camper roof edges and also kool seal the roof. Mostly what I did to fix the pump
resevour is a temporary fix to try and make my repairs. I will get a new pump unit later. Thanks for reminding me about that product.

Hi Billy,

The Hi-Lo should fit your needs perfectly once you get it repaired.

Our family had a 1961 13footer in the mid 60s. It was very basic,
just a dinette and a gaucho, and was hand cranked, not hydraulic.

The lower profile is supposed to help some with gas mileage, but I
don't ever recall my Dad discussing that topic. He towed it with a
'63 Rambler classic 6cyl & auto and a '65 Ambassador 8cyl & auto -
both wagons. He did use a weight equalizing hitch, as he was
transporting a family of 8 as he towed it as well.

We never had any problems with it. They just traded it in in the early
'70s for a larger regular TT.

I understand that Hi-Lo closed down, but then I recall reading somewhere
that someone else is trying to revive the brand but I can't recall where
I ran across that unfortunately.

Thanks for your input Norm. I am familiar with the web sites. In 1965 we had a new rambler classic car
and in 1968 a new rambler rebel station wagon, loaded and cost about $2800. Both great cars.
I read that Hilo had closed down in 2010 and also that someone had bought the copywright from the previous owners and are planning on building more as ordered.

I think it is great that you got the camper to raise up! Nice work. Am I correct that the hydraulic pump and piston creates tension on lifting cables that to cause the roof to rise?

Tom that is correct. When you flip the switch to the up position, the hydraulic pump sends fluid to
a hydraulic cylinder(ram) which moves four cables on pulleys to lift the top. There is a safety device that goes into place to keep the top from coming back down. To let down, there is a cable pull to disconnect
the safety device, then you flip switch to down position which allows fluid to leave ram and go back into
reservoir. this allows the top to go down.
