225/ 75 /14 tire?

I am looking for tires for a trailer I might buy. The tires on it now are 225/75/14. From just poking a round it looks like that is an expensive tire. I guess because it's for a trailer
Do I really need a trailer tire? It's going on a dual axle trailer (see photo) that will have a 10 X 5 platform that I plan to build a Wanderer type camper on. I can't imagine that it ever weighing that much.

You should be able to run car radials for what you are building.
Right now I have 195 / 65 / R14" on my tandem 6 x 10, tows and handle great, going up a few aeries, but sticking with car radials
I'd probably go to 205, 70 / R14's on that

Should be fine since your not puttinga lot of weight on it. I have trailer tires on mine but that because I got a great deal on the wheels and tires together. Some say trailer tires are better because they have stiffer side walls do they don't have issues from the sun and setting so much where car tires don't as they are more pliable for a softer ride. Also keep an eyeon the Atlanta CL for tires, sometimes you can find really good deals on tires.

Trailer tires are for the most part made in China and you do not want them. I will be switching our trailer to car tires or light truck tires as I do not trust the Good Year Marathon (made in China) tires. In talking with the gentleman who is doing the repair on Compass Rose we talked about tires and he mentioned the number of trailers he has repaired with damage caused by catastrophic trailer tire failure.

Clearly I do not know what all the numbers mean. I guessing the 14 is the rim size?

I found some 205, If I understand this correctly the 205 means the tires will not be as tall as the 225 that are on there now. This thing sits low to the ground as it is, will this cause a clearance problem?

Costco now sells trailer rated tires, if you have one near you. It's a special order, but it only takes a few days to get it. The sidewalls on trailer tires are bit more sturdier to handle the proper load ratings.

205 mm indicates this tire is 205 millimeters across from the widest point of its outer sidewall to the widest point of its inner sidewall = Width

70 is the hight in relation to the width, a high number is a taller tire

and 14 is the rim diameter

I think I am going to bail on the trailer. By the time i put 4 good tires on it my cheap trailer is not so cheep any more.
