Methane, farmers can convert it to energy to run the farm and power equipment, municipalities can harnes the power from their sewage treatment plants and landfill sites.
Methane hydrates can be found in the arctic, on the ocean floor in coal mines.
Bar owners could give free chilli and nacho's with beer purchase to harnes the power to run the beer coolers and power the lights by having gas collectors at ceiling level

Let's take some of the people on unemployment, and train them to build large solar arrays, and put them to work. In essence, it would be "free" labor for the government, and would be giving them new job skills, so also benefiting the recipients.

People could take charge of their own energy independence by installing wind or solar or a combo of both

And many of us would have done so already, if the result weren't twice as expensive as grid power.


I looked hard at thin PV solar for our home last year. Even without batteries, I was looking at around $17,000 for a system to meet our needs. With grid power costing me about $1300 a year, it would take me 15 years just to break even, assuming no maintenance or failures.

Right on! Here in CA the with the current power grid incentives/tier pricing, our annual electrical bill is about $600. At that rate, break even comes close to 30 years when I'll be in my 80s. I'll probably have more important things to worry about at that age. Nothing beats smart conservation.
