7X10 BUILD FOR FOUR

Postby Partsman » Fri May 04, 2012 9:49 am

My original plan was to throw my US Cargo 7x10 together for this summer.
I talked myself into going ahead and stripping it down for insulation and building it like I want.
When I got it.

Stripped out diamond plate and wheel chocks.

Pulled white painted paneling out to find 3/8" plywood!

Drivers side stripped to Z studs on 16" centers.

Plan on getting insulation and window this weekend.

I am thinking about this floor plan.
The white at the top is the existing cabinets. The green beds are 30"x75" about a foot off the floor.
The blue bed is 54"x80" (long full) and will be 24"-30" from the ceiling. I may lift it to the ceiling when not in use.
Then the green beds can be seating.

I have about 27" above the kids upper beds. With the extra roof vent and the a/c there is plenty of air circulation for them. Plus when I open the rear doors the back is screened in and it gives the entire trailer a great breeze.

How wide is the space between the front of the trailer and the door? Did you remove the cabinet that was in the front? I'm thinking that you can put the double bed side ways against the cargo door and have a 30" wide bunk above. In the front, I would just have cabinets on the bottom with just a counter top. Above it I would put another bunk that would fold up against the wall when not in use. It may hang over the doorway a couple inches. It would just depend on how much.

I have not taken the cabinets out. Hoping I will not need to.
There is not room for a bunk in the front anyway. 18 or 20 inches is all.
I do not plan on cooking inside so a counter is not at the top of my list.

I finally got the window to fit. It turns out my Z channel up-rites are not quite perpendicular to my roof.
I think it matches nice.

Now to get things braced up and sealed.

Yes.

Lowes calls it a trailer house window. 30"x40" and only 1.25" thick.
I wanted as big as I could get with 32" centers and be able to stick a window unit in when I need it.
If I did it again I would get a narrower one.
My Z channel is not quite square and I had to a lot of grinding.

Two beds and an air conditioner!

My wife suggested putting the thick mattress on bottom.

So I went and got a 4" king size foam topper and cut it to fit. (The queen they had was not long enough)
Image
Then I cut the trimming up for pillows.

One advantage to a 7ft wide trailer vs 6ft is you can sleep width ways...im to tall for my trailer to do that! looks great!
