Memphis newbie introducing himself

Postby calicorkication » Thu May 10, 2012 3:35 pm

Hello everyone. I am currently researching to buy my first TD or maybe even a TTT. I have been pondering the Tiny House life in recent months and decided it was time to start making some moves toward that goal. I traded in my 2007 Honda Civic today for a 2009 Honda CR-V with an already installed hitch. I have been looking for a while at buying something like an F150 or Sierra but I decided to start small after reading The Blonde Coyote's blog and how she travels the US with her trusty Subaru and TD.

I hope to learn from all of you and make a good first TD purchase or maybe even build my own. I have never built anything unless you count that poor book stand in 7th grade shop class. But I have designed, tilled, and harvested my 1 acre vegetable garden. I'm an IT guy by trade with a degree in Accounting that I haven't used. I can pick an acoustic guitar pretty well and play a little banjo.

I look forward to the adventure and thank you all for providing this resource and sharing your input and experiences with new members.

Welcome to the Forum!
We are all friends here, and this seem to be a very safe Forum to be on so far, so you could leave us your name????
I have been building cars for over 45 years and own a Street Rod & Restoration shop.
My recent Teardrop project (although a whole lot of fun) has cost me 10 times what I thought I would spent and has taken 3 times as long as I thought also!
So, my advice to you is to buy a Pre Made Teardrop, hook it to your new Tow Vehicle, load up your guitar and go out and enjoy your new lifestyle and meet some great new friends.
That is what we plan to do with our new toy!
But BUY ONE! There are a lot on ebay! You will save yourself at on of money and have instant gratification.
If I were in your shoes I would be buying a 5' wide "Little Guy" no Question?????
Look forward to hearing more from you, when you get closer to the camping season.

Haha Brian & Sandi, sorry about that. I actually intended to do so and think my post got cut short since I was at work when I was typing. My name is George. Thanks to you guys and John for the welcome.

Brian/Sandi,

I have been keeping an eye on Ebay since you mentioned it and so far I've only seen a Little Guy Rascal and one other model. I have seen some other brands too. If I were to go with the Five Wide, are there cheaper ways to accessorize it with things that fit it with little work (i.e. stove, sink, fridge, etc)? I'm sure there are forums to answer that question but thought you might point me there quicker.
