Flooring on 2" angle iron

Postby Jkester » Wed May 16, 2012 11:46 am

I have a NT 5x8 trailer that uses 2" angle for the frame and I'm trying to decide the best way to end up above the top edge with my plywood. What do you think about laying sheetmetal on the bottom (2- 4'x8' sheets overlapped), then rip framing to 2" thick. I have 2" foamboard that I can fill in the frame with; then I can lay my 3/4" plywood down and it should go over the top of the angle iron.

1. Thoughts on this method?
2. Should I coat the galvanized sheetmetal or just seal where it meets the frame?

Looking forward to your thoughts.

Just installed the aluminum on the outside of a 4 x 9 on a Tractor Supply trailer. I notched the floor to fit inside the angle but that turns out to be a PITA too because the difficulty of putting that many screws through the molding and the angle. Have had rain every afternoon so I haven't finished installing my lower molding yet. Might be the only thing I would change on my build just because of the difficulty to deal with the angle iron on the trailer. Will not affect the final product just another issue to deal with and slow progress. (I did make a trip to a Tearjerkers birthday in Charleston, SC the first of the month with a minimum amount of duck tape :D - just couldn't wait any longer)

James check ny build journal see how I made mine, just a thought though before you go further and that is too double check your trailer and make sure its square!! Alot of the angles iron trailers are not that square and they flex alot.

Cliff
