PD4045 RV - 45A Converter

Postby bigbendhiker » Mon May 21, 2012 6:55 am

I have a 5x10 cargo trailer on order. I plan to have both 110AC and 12VDC.

110AC usage will be A/C window unit, coffee maker, toaster oven, and dorm style refrigerator.

12VDC usage will be LED lights, small LCD TV, fan, small laptop with 12" screen, USB for recharging cell phones.

Will this work for my needs - PD4045 RV?

Is there something that might work better? :NC

Do I have to install a battery immediately or can I add it later? (as funds permit)

Most of my camping is in state parks (electrical hook ups available) or national parks (no hook ups - I would have to have a battery for this)

Thanks in advance for your help. :applause:

The PD4045 RV is plenty big.

If you need to stay where there are no hookups, I would get a 12 DCV refrigerator.

For this you would, of course, need a battery.

An 110 ACV refrigertor is of little use when hookups are unavailable.

On average how many amps does a 12VDC refrigerator draw? I realize there are variables, size, ambient temperatures, how often opened, etc., but I just wonder what a ballpark number would be.

It depends on the type of DC refrigerator.

I have a Norcold DC0051.

It draws just short of 3 amps while running.

Depending on variables that you mentioned, the duty factor could be 50% more or less.

This means you would average 1.5 amps.
