Clint looks great bud and love your work shop from the video! Couple questions for you as I have to renake my hatch for like the 3rd time . I notice in the router pic and on video there are screw holes in the rib and wondered if you just used screws to hold your pattern down as you routed instead of clamps? And do you have a pic of the hatch before you skin it yet?

Thank You! There are drawings at the top of the main page under design library. The 2x2 design is in there for all the taken. I started from there and just changed up the things I wanted different. I can send you the files on what I changed still if you like.

Thank You! The shop is great and has A/C. I lucked into it. It was here when we got the house but just an empty shell. Doing remodels I have acquired a lot of cabinets and such to make the shop a little more organized.

The screw holes are there to hold the template down. I tried to use some clamps but I did not have big enough ones and the template would slip a little. I notice some of the parts where coming out and not matching up with one another. So I just screwed them together. Probably not the prettiest thing to do.

Today when I get the whole hatch together I will take pics of the hatch and whatever else you would like. I don't know if I am building it the correct way but I like it so far.

well my plans to build a similar 2+2 like this are on hold. The wife said she wants a camper that she can stand up in and that has some sort of a toilet. if i can find a way to incorporate a little bathroom and make it tall enough i will build one but if not i might be stuck looking at some used travel trailers. luckily I am 5'6" and my wife is 5'4" so it wouldnt have to be super tall. Off to the drawing boards to try making this work

Clint thanks for the help on the hatch spars got my first 2 routered out tonight and will get the rest done in am and hopefully the hatched skinned. Thanks bud!

Well yesterday I beat the plywood skin back off the hatch. Let me tell ya the PL Glue is some good stuff. I glued half of the the hatch with titebond and the other with PL when it dried it was crooked. Not saying that titebond is not good but where there is a large area and some gaps.

So today I will be putting the frame on the trailer. Getting everything align then fasten down to the trailer then put the skin on and letting it dry in place. That will be after I get back form the lumber store today.

The PL adhesive is some pretty good stuff. I learned about it from Wolfgang. I don't think He used a nail one on his sides. He has a beautiful 2x2 with the varnished wood sides. Look at his build on here. I have read it about 4 time to get ideas and how to build.

This is what's left of the old hatch. While taking it apart the ribs where breaking. Figure out that it was from running screws into the plywood end grain. So that lead me to trash it and start over. Also am beefing up the ribs and the side pieces. So I am guessing that building somewhat in place is the way to do the hatch? I was able to get the upper bunk made and installed.

The ribs are now 4"x1/2" they where 2"x1/2". As you can see in one of the pics the nail gun. No screws on this go around. Using 1/4"x1" staples.

One could build it with a foot well in it that you could sand up in. I believe the original design had one in it. You could use the foot well all the way to the corner and have a porta pottie there. Have fun designing.

Thanks Clint. your build is coming along great and i hope you get it completed soon so i can show my wife the pics of your amazing skills and craftsmanship. she is afraid it will be too small for us and our daughter. I believe that when you are camping you are there to spend time outside rather than locked in the camper

You could combine some elements of my trailer with the original and Clints design. I made my design about 10" narrower, because I wanted to add fenders. Keep the design a single door, move the porta potty to on side and you might be able to put a single bunk running length wise. This would best be layed out on a cheap couple pieces of OSB. That way you can start to get a feel for how much space you really have. Couple of other things, the porta potty is actually about 3" of the floor on a spacer. Much more comfortable to get on and off. With a 6" mattress, the trailer can be a slouchy for me and I am 5' 11".
