lantern that I could not find on the internet at all.

hey all
I got this little guy at an antique store for 5 bucks. It uses 4 d batteries or could be plugged into a car battery. The only clue to it's age is a price tag for the SKI HUT in Berkeley ca which as far as i can tell closed in 1978. Its a neat thing to have and hopefully someone knows something about it.

That's exactly what I thought. I totally would have paid more. It came with two extra bulbs and the instructions. I can't even find the company that made it on the web.

WOW!! Ski Hut! I forgot all about that place!!!

Is there a UPC bar code on the box? How about a zip code? That will help date it.

Cool find!! And if it came from Ski Hut, it is good stuff!

Is there any indication on the box about where it was manufactured? The word "caravaning" leads me to believe it was imported from Europe somewhere.
This is about all I could find online.

I agree that it's European due to the word "caravanning"..I will do a bit of a search on the Ski Hut..partially because I grew up in the Bay area..and lived about a mile from the Ski Hut as a kid..before REI, it was THE place to get camping gear, and probably all my childhood gear came from the Ski Hut (and I remember my Dad taking us there for down jackets as kids...)

OMG...that search for 'Ski Hut' was a major trip down memory lane..I had no idea that Berkeley and Richmond (where my Dad lived before moving toe Willits, CA) were the epicenter of outdoor gear. I remember trips to the Ski Hut..bored to death, while my Dad talked to the sales people about mummy bags (which were new at the time..) and other outdoor gear. We got all our supplies there. Later we had North Face stuff. I still have a windbreaker from the 90's from Sierra Designs. I had my first non-down jacket (polar 'something' filled..better than down..you could wash it..) from the Ski Hut. My hiking boots were clearance items from the store..who the heck wore a 7 AAA boot anyway..he said I'd grow into them, so for years I wore them with cotton balls crammed into the toes. We always left our boots outside, being that the dirt was red and we didn't want it in the house..so before I could go in, I had to take off my boots and, with a stick, clean off the red dirt caked in the soles.

Freeze dried ice cream from the Ski Hut was a treat. Those dang freeze dried eggs weren't!!

I'll keep looking for info on your lantern...it's really cool..looks like a super early tent light or something!!

There is no bar code. it is from the Netherlands. I will be using it for a tent light although it is not light weight. with 4 D sized batteries and a frosted glass globe it is no backpacker.
