So this lantern is a 52. When did the quadrant glass happen, and it the frame the same for both. Could one put quad glass in this frame?

My 58 Coleman Mil Spec also came with the globe. Mine was also labeled US in olive drab. From looking at this one and the ones with the quadrant glass it does appear that the rails and glass will go right in. The burner frames are different in the early and late Mils but the parts should interchange.

Now you have one Mil it needs a partner.

I've been active on the Coleman Collectors Forum, and a lot has changed in my life the last two years. The trailer sits patiently, waiting to be finished but still-usable as a camp wagon and it's loaded, pretty much ready to take off camping.

We aren't camping just now because we just moved to a new (used) house, 4 miles south of where I lived for 12 years; you can understand the distractions! Especially lanterns! and stoves! ...and I only wanted three lanterns and one stove for my teardrop project... LAWLZ. I've over ten times that many today, and I love every one of them.

I have a '52 also, with the one-piece, whole globe marked U.S. Pyrex... from what I can gather, the quad glass lanterns appeared later in the '50s and have four two-sided channels held onto the original-style burner frame's uprights (fi that makes any sense) with tabs.

I believe the four channels might be had from a parts lantern and then attached to yours, which might contradict what our good friend Randy posted. We'll see... I'm often wrong but never in doubt. LOL.

Oopsie. I see I did not complete my posts. From setting Mil Spec with quadrant and without side by side I can see no reason the rails for the quadrant can't be put in an earlier lantern. But why? They are more unique. Aren't they? Or you could go the other way and take out the quadrant system and slip a common globe in it.

I have been thinking about taking 2 adjacent glass panels out and replacing them with sheet metal to make a reflecting lantern.



Also it seems that the military never seen a need for amber for red glass. At least I have never seen/heard of any.

While getting my hair cut the other day my barber said she was having a garage sale. I asked if she had any Coleman stuff and she did.
This is what I got plus a large vintage electric fan.
Nothing very exciting. But; the price was right.
1970 220E, 1968 220F, and a Roddy. I think the Roddy is the same as an Ashflash.
