Stolen Camp-Inn

Postby Betsey » Tue May 29, 2012 7:34 pm

One of our customers reported today his Camp-Inn 2005 550 Ultra was stolen. It was being stored in a RV storage facility in Ventura CA and went missing. It is serial number 144. The customer has the serial number tag because he never got around to putting it on the trailer. So, the trailer would be devoid of it's serial tag but a number of trailers of an older vintage are if the customer did not install the tag we sent them. Serial tags are usually placed in the galley on the driver's side, on the wall just below the hatch hinge.

The customer still has the keys so likely the trailer now has the locks drilled out or completely different door handles installed.

For those who may not be familiar, here is what a 550 Ultra would look like on the exterior:

If you should happen to locate a 550 Ultra & think it might be the stolen one, please contact the police with the information.

We will post any updates, if/when we receive them.

Hi Betsey, good for you, staying on top of this sad story. One of these days it will show up, and hopefully the thief will be caught.

The one positive is that some one thought it worth steeling. Again the value of having insurance.

I wonder if the place had cameras and then perhaps the thief could be found. Was it stored outside, or in a locked unit?

Really awful for the owner.

Stolen Camp-Inn

Postby Verna » Sat Jun 02, 2012 1:05 pm

There's been a rash of rented storage garages being broken into around here lately. I asked my brother to check ours. I would hope that a thief would just closed the door after looking at all of the hardwood lumber we have in it!!!!

I know our unit has a camera just a few feet away--hopefully it's operational.

If it was taken south of the border, like many stolen cars are, it will likely never be seen again. :( Also, thieves have been loading up ships and shipping vehicles to Europe.
I hope they had good insurance on it. Being a manufactured unit, insurance is easier to get and it is easier to establish vehicle value.

Sometimes some of the cost can be recovered by the home owners policy. It is usually not a lot and it has to be weighed over the increase in premium. It is one of the things that you want to talk to your agent about.

About a week ago, we saw a Camp-Inn being pulled through Cave Junction,Oregon on Highway 199 heading south toward Crescent City, California. It is very unusual to see one this far west.

Update! The customer in Ventura has had his stolen trailer recovered.

It was found sitting in a apartment building parking lot abandoned. When the building management went to have it towed away was when it was discovered to be reported stolen. The perp had managed to break into the camper without doing serious damage. Most of the customers good camping gear is missing.

A very happy Camp-Inn customer has been reunited.
