Would it be doable

Postby PKCSPT » Fri Jun 08, 2012 9:45 pm

I really want my husband to go camping with me but due to a medical condition he needs to be able to take a bath. I have been thinking a smaller (12 foot or so) CT might be the answer. I been wondering about putting a shallow tub on a frame and a holding tank under the tub? Best place be over the wheels? Figure a bed to the front, a few cabinets to store food and a cooler so not looking to be fancy. He'd go in my tear if there was room for the tub. Sometimes we go day camping and wish we could stay all night.
I enjoy camping by myself or with the kids but it sure would be more fun if I could figure out how to basically take a simple old time motel room and put it on wheels so he would be able to enjoy camping too. Is this a realistic thought or to much for a CT weight wise.

Karen,

I believe with some graph paper and measuring out a 6x12 or 7x12 you would find that this would/could be doable. I would suggest a cargo trailer with the rear ramp door in your situation as it would be easier getting up and down in the trailer. You could easily make a rear dining booth set up that folds down into a queen bed, with the table removed totally you could still get through between the booths to access the rear ramp (plus the ramp could be set up to be a patio). this would allow you to put in a small tub in the middle with cabinets/small kitchenette in the front. A fresh water holding tank could be fit between the frame rails under the floor or under one of the dining booths. I think with a little sit down planning you would see that it could be very doable. (P.S. the grey water tank from tub/sinks could fit under the floor in the frame rails also)

I hope this may help.

If you look around... you can find old mobile home trailers with small bath tubs. I'd search for one of those for your situation. They'll take up less room. They are narrow. If he's not a big guy, it will work out nicely. Turned sideways over the axles is your best bet for weight support with the tub. I would also make sure the flooring is good in the CT you purchase. It might need reinforcing if you going to be using it with lot of water. I'm disabled and When I soak I like lots of water. ;)

Karen,
I have a 7 x 12 and can easily imagine the space for a small tub. The extra foot in width might make all the difference!

Chaulking an outline on your driveway for the various items you want to include really helps, especially for the tub.

I think a bath tub would be very doable. The tub will only be heavy when it is full of water.
A trailer will hold a lot sitting still.

Great,, thanks. Think I will start planning this. So excited. If I can locate a nice used unit it wouldn't have to be real expensive at least to start. Love the rear cargo door idea. Two chairs and a couple small tv dinner tables this could be fun. Gotta keep it very simple.

Wolfscout has the right idea. I live in a single wide, and we finally removed the old trailer tub. They are about 6" shorter in length and width, and usually have a bunch of space under them. That space could be used for a tank maybe? Usually it's filled with foam support, but the older ones had a 2x4 bracing system.

You can still find them if you look for "Mobile Home" parts. They will sell new windows, shorty tub surrounds, and short tubs (i've heard them called "Boot tubs" by local plumbers.
