I have dyed a dog many times, but I was helping a friend's daughter. We dyed the dog (a westie) pink and blue for easter, orange with a brown tail for Halloween, and several times, just because we could. We either used food coloring or Kook Aid.

I definitely wouldn't use Clarol type dyes, the pH of a dogs skin is very different than humans, and I can see some ugly chemical burn potential.

You can do it, but not in Boulder. There was a hair salon that dyed a poodle pink for breast cancer awareness was fined $1000 a while back.

A reputable groomer can do it for you with pet safe products.

We dyed our white Bulgarian Weasel Hound in stripes of different colors for Halloween one year. We thought it was cool, she didn't so much.

We used a pet product that came in a dispenser like liquid shoe polish, with a sponge on the end. So we just striped it on.

Washed out the next day. She didn't like the bath either ;)

When a friend's pet-sitter received permission to "dress the dogs up for Halloween", the sitter used food color to turn the two Great Pyrennes into orange lions. This did NOT wash out quickly! If you insist on giving the dog a dye job, I would strongly recommend letting the groomer do it. But if it's to cover the grey, you are going to have to do it again, and again, and again, and . . .

Dogs don't see in color. They only see black and white, which would include shades of gray. Gray is a natural color to them.

SPIKE, my sister's dog, could care less if he is gray....as long as he gets a play date with his sister, my Sunny Day, every once in a while 8)

You know Cliff she has gotten more grey since she has take domicile in our residence. (Moved in for you texans) with 5 members of the family that has an obsession with wrapping her up in a blanket proping her up looking like a puppy burrito. Having her roll around in sawdust like a hamster, the midnight pool parties, the trips down the slide. no puppy earmuffs when dad is working out in the garage, those are big ears. dad chasing her around trying to step on her. using blue masking tape as paw booties. This is love for a dauchund, well shes not even a full size dauch shes a mini dauch. lets not get started with the ears.

Not to get off topic, but, dogs are not color blind. They see several colors. Just not as intensely as humans do. And fewer of them.
