Length of RV power cord

What length do you recommend for the cord that goes from your trailer to the park hookup? I'm looking at this one.

They have sizes ranging from 25' to 50'. I've only tent camped and I'd like to buy the right one the first time.

Make sure that the connector on the power cord, that connects to your RV, will mate with the RV recepticle.

A 25 foot power cord seams to work just fine.

Scott what kind of inlet are you putting in your trailer? If its a Marinco with the sure lock then thats what you need but if you get a regular 30amp rv they are just the three prong like a dryer cord and you can get them at wal-mart for like $49. And 25' is usually enough cord for all my trailers I've had.

Cliff, That same Ebay vendor has an inlet that will mate up with the cord, so I think I'll go that route. When I've gone tent camping at state parks I've taken an extension cord to run power to my tent for my laptop. In that case I sometimes need more than 25', but the pad for RVs is always next to the electrical pedestal and I couldn't think of a reason that someone might need 40' or 50'. Thanks for the confirmation.

My daughter actually graduated from Tech and she loves it out there. She's now starting grad school and we had to help her change apartments.

I have two. One is just 6ft for when the teardrop is in the garage being worked on, and stays at home. The other is 25ft and lives in the trailer. I've never needed more than about 10ft though.

The SideKick TTT has a 25' and we used most of it at Clifty Falls. The electrical pedestal was next to the picnic table, which was a logical, shady place for the table. So, with the electrical inlet on the opposite side of the SideKick, I simply laid the 30 amp cable on the ground under the SideKick to the pedestal.

I bought a 30 amp 25' cable for the Escape2 TD, and I hope to never need more than that. It has two doors, so I can be flexible in which side opens to the picnic table.

I've got a 30' cord and it usually is about twice the length I need.

30 amps is a lot of power. Enough for a 15,000 btu AC, a microwave, and a bunch of other stuff at the same time. If it were me I'd have a male 15/20 amp inlet on the trailer and bring a 50 foot, 12 AWG extension cord. I have never seen a campground power outlet that had ONLY a 30 or 50 amp socket- they always have a 15/20 amp (regular 3-prong household with parallel blades).

That said, my trailer has a 30', 30 amp power cable. a few feet are used up inside with the connection to the converter. I've never wanted more cable at a campground but often do when staying with family. When stored, the cable takes up quite a bit of space.

I have seen such many times. In fact, so many times that I had to buy a 30/15A adapter for my power cord.

I should have mentioned that I avoid plug-in sites... Ok, I still stand by the suggestion for a regular extension cord- but then add an adapter.

Using an adapter so you can plug a 14 AWG or 12 AWG extension cord into a 30 amp campground receptacle is not wise. The cord is not rated for the amps the breaker will pass.

And in some cases if you use a power converter box like I did off ebay that runs it all, most are made for 30amp inlet service.
