Motor Bike @ traffic light

Has anyone else ran or sat at a traffic light and found that the motor bike doesn't trigger the light? (not heavy enough to activate the light) I found this at two lights in my area and all lights are red @ 4:00 am so I stop of course and then just go through them.

Basically the detection at most traffic lights is an upside down metal detector using an inductive loop. Some will and some will not read a smaller metal mass.

I find you can sometimes trigger the marginal lights by laying the bike down on its side, right on top of the detector coil.

But at 4am, stop, look, listen and ride through.

Put a small steel plate under your bike. It is not by weight that triggers the light but a magnetic loop as Angib says.

Google had many ideas. Some suggest trying diffent places to trigger the light. One suggested using powerfull magnets.

Try it on a carbon fiber bicycle.. not a chance. On that.. as soon as it is clear.. I just go. I do have some trouble with my motorcyle also. It's a big bike, but it has a lot of plastic and aluminum.

once at a red light my bike stalled and I had a dickens of time trying to restart it - then the light turned green and fellow behind me began to honk his horn. I put the kick stand down on the bike and got off. I walked up to the car and the person rolled down the window - I politely said - you know - you can come up here and start my bike while I stay here and honk the horn if you like. Guy just pulled around me and gave the number one sign - Geez some people. . . .

I noticed that problem when I had a bike some years ago. That's interesting that it is a metal detection device. I always thought it was weight that triggered those lights.

The thing I hate is when someone in front of me (in a car) stops to turn left way in front or behind the line. Then they sit there like a DA wondering why the turn signal didn't go green.

Try it with a Bicycle.........Ran into a state cop gave me his card said if it happens to be careful and make the turn or go strait under red light if I get hassled by law enforcement give them his card.

I usually wait till car comes and activates light. Or go on if not busy.

Once got a ticket at 3am with no one gonna drive up for hours for "running" a red light.
Cop said I should of
1- right on red
2- u turn
3- right turn back on to original street

Yeah, right! Like I'm gonna do that.
