Bernzomatic stove & Coleman Heater

Lanterns, stoves, etc... anything old!

Bernzomatic stove & Coleman Heater

Postby Jkester » Sun Jun 10, 2012 1:08 pm

A friend of mine found these at a yard sale yesterday and got them for me to go in the teardrop I am building. I can't find much (really any) information on either one. Would they be considered vintage camping equipment? Not sure how old they are.
Also, has anyone used a similar heater inside a camper? I'm not sure that we will be using it inside; maybe near us while we are sitting outside.
The Benzomatic stove - takes a propane bottle for each side.

and the heater- stores the propane bottle in the back door.

Thanks for any info you have on these camping items. Now all I need is a lantern.

BTW, the stove was $8 and the heater cost $10. Assuming they work they will come in handy.

Nice friend! I have one of those heaters, they work quite well. 70s vintage, and still brand new. Can't beat that. They do burn clean but may be overkill in a TD, they can heat a small room of cabin tent pretty well. And there are always concerns with that type of device in a closed space, they eat a lot of O2. But great piece all the same.
I'd venture to guess the stove is also 70's vintage and also in nice shape. The Bernzo stuff is popular with some collectors and usually works well. Congrats on the new additions

In my TD a single mantle lantern keeps me warm while reading. I even have to open the windows a bit. After you go to bed you probably will not need heat anyway. Unless your trailer is really big or it is really cold.

Randy,
I would think that with a 4' tall room the size of a queen size mattress that I probably won't be able to use it inside but It might be good to set up outside near the galley in the morning if we are making breakfast on a cool morning. I haven't tried it yet so I don't know how low the heat can be set. We usually go to Florida for some of the winter so continuous heat isn't needed.

Thanks,
James & Rhonda

Yeah, that could help. I just didn't think about heating the great outdoors.

Memorial Day...The high temp was 34F and it was snowing. I used a 228 to pre-heat the trailer and was able to get an 11' standie up to 60F. I also tried the 200A. I believe that the 220's and 228's run cleaner. The fuel smell wasn't nearly as bad as with the 200A. Short of an "official" heater...a lantern does a great job, dried out my soggy tennis shoes too! I take it out while lit...then shut it down so it doesn't get the strong fuel smell in the trailer during shutdown. Always....Always, vent the trailer if running a gas fired item in it. Doug
