They like 'em long... Who has a 12 footer?

Postby olds-cool » Wed Jun 13, 2012 9:03 am

I've got an old Coleman popup that will be undergoing the transformation soon. It's roughly 6.5x12. I came up with an initial design but I'm not 100% sold on it yet. I'd like to see others who have built on a 12' platform to get some ideas on placement of things like windows, door, etc. I was browsing the side profile post yesterday and saw a few longer trailers but no specs listed so it could just be the pic making it look bigger.

So, if you have a 12 foot trailer, please post a pic, even a few would be cool. Maybe a few specs on it like height, window and door sizes used, whatever you think could be helpful. Have a build thread on it? I'd love to browse through it so post a link if possible. Not so much interested in interior design as I am the outside. I'm making a toyhauler so the interior is going to be a bit different than most anyways.

Scott won't mine you lookin' in his album......

I was impressed that 2 adults were able to sleep side to side and twin boys in the floor on a couple of cloth palletts. The bed is up on a pedestal and on rainy afternoons it doubles as a couch.
Growing older but not up !

Thanks for the link Bob. By the way, your work is an inspiration to me, and a few other tightwads too I'm sure. I've been lurking for about a week and always enjoy your informative posts and creative use of materials.

Not quite as large as you might like, but mine is an 11-foot by 6-foot pop-up for standing headroom when you want it.

More food for thought. Enjoy the design process.

I like that pop top idea Mike. A design feature I never considered. My family runs a bit on the tall side so that would work great. If I use some steel bracing in that area, I could have a pop top and rear hatch hinged in the same place.

Rob, that one is in my top 10 favorites on the site. Right up there with the strippers. I can't even imagine how much time must have went into building it. It looks right at home behind that A.

Our new Winter Warrior is 12' long and 76" wide, 14' long if you count the attached tongue box. Has 2 rooms and you can stand in the back.

Sorry slow but there is no way I'm doing a mini. Besides needing my space and not feeling comfortable in a tuna can, I'll be using mine as a toyhauler. Here is one of the toys, the next one will likely be just as long or more.

I had one like that!
Though it had playing cards for a motor...
Still, it was pretty cool!
