My interior storage mod

Our Tear has a deep upper galley that takes away the normal interior cabinet space. I love the extra kitchen space but I wanted to figure out an interior cabinet that didn't take up existing interior space. Impossible you say? Nope!

I cut some memory foam to fit...











The cabinet is not attached to the camper body. The mattress keeps it in place.
As long as the pillow is cushy, you hardly notice it!

You know, I never did any woodworking until I started making cornhole boards a couple years ago. Now I can't stop! It's addictive. I think Julia loves it too because I don't get bored and bother her anymore.

Going camping is all I can think about. Working on the camper helps occupy my mind so I don't go crazy!

Bill, I hope Lance is as enthusiastic as you about camping once we get started!! I'm afraid it is going to be a tug of war between the boat and the camper for him. If he loves it as much as you maybe the teardrop won't have to tug so hard.

Lol! Sorry I missed your post Sharon. I'm sure the link that Becky provided will answer your question. The cornhole game started in the midwest, probably Ohio, and it's pretty popular all around the east and midwest but I'm not sure how many westerners know about it. My family wanted me to make them some boards because I am the handy one in the group. I have made probably a dozen sets so far and It was a great way to learn and hone some basic carpentry and finishing skills.

Cornhole, also known as bean bag toss, corn toss, baggo or bags, is a lawn game in which players take turns throwing bean bags at a raised platform with a hole in the far end. At the other end the galley sticks out about 2 feet into the interior and there is only about 1 foot of clearance over the mattress. I wouldn't want to be headfirst under that.

Otherwise, it would make more sense to have the storage unit under the feet.

I think the key is making the unit an inch or 2 shorter than the mattress height and putting some good padding on it. Right now, we will be using the folded blanket but I saved some of the memory foam that I cut off. It will be used to make a padded throw that will be on the top of the cabinet. I will probably attach it with velcro so it doesn't slide around.

I hadn't really considered that the interior bulkhead mounted
cabinets would intrude to that degree. I was just wondering, as
I'm considering a design that'd use an attenuated mattress length
as a daytime seat and whose sleep length would then be made up
with by a much thinner padded fold-down bench at the end of
the mattress. Your mod was the closest I've seen to that scenario.
